Doigs win $25,000 for 156 -yard hole -in -one
It's a wonder you didn't
hear us hack here in Seaforth.
Recently. . while playing in,
the National Golf Course.
Owners Scramble at Maple
Ridge in London. Cam Doig
aced a 156 -yard par three
hole and won $25,000.
The just -for -fun scramble
is held every autumn• at a
different course in southern
Ontario. Lunch; golf, dinner,
and a chance to get away and
talk to others in the golf
business, are reasons enough
to- go regardless of the
inclement weather. Cam,
Todd, D d, and 1 had entered
the event several weeks ago.
Casual water and soggy
'fairways meant the balls
' . werdn't going very far but we
were determitled to have a
good time and proceeded to
do so right from the start.
Dad putted extremely well.
Since he was putter,number

two, I only had to putt if he
missed. For the first several
holes I never tad to putt as
Dad proceeded to knock them.
in the hole from all over
under the tutelage of Cam
and Todd who basically. told
him where to aim.
Driving was a little more
erratic. Cam's drives were
here, there and everywhere:
Todd was getting off the tee
pretty well and hit some real
boomers.
Unfortunately the rules
required that we use everyone
on the team's drive at lest
three times during the 18 hole
round. We were able to make
our. way around the course

scoring .quite a few birdies as
we went.
Eventually we.had used
three drives from everyone
except Dad. We had only two
holes left, both par threes.
Dad doesn't hit it far
anymore but he's usually
pretty straight so we thought
that we could always use him
on one of the last par threes.
Only two holes to go and
only one drive from Dad
needed.
Our second last hole was
sponsored by the National
Golf Course Owners
Association and was a par
three with a $25.000 prize for
a hole in one. Dad hit first
and was just short. but we
could still use the drive. chip
on and one putt if we had to.
Todd was also a bit short
when he hit his 8iron. the
course was really wet. Cam
asked Todd what he hit (you
can do that in a team format)
and decided to hit 8 iron too.
As soon as it.went in the
air Todd said. "That's 25.
grand right there!" Cam said,
"That could go in." The ball
headedright for the flag.
landed about eight inches
short,' took one bounce and
w.ent into the. hole like a
rabbit. '
There was about a three -
second delay until we all'
realized: what had just
happened. The NGCOA guys -
and girls were jumping and
hollering._ There were cheers.
Golf carts with players from
other holes drove over to see
what all the noise was about.
What excitement.

We still had a par„three to
go. We would have to use
Dad's drive because it was
the only hole leli and we sure
had to use Cam's on the
previous hole. Cam. Todd
and I didn't even go to the
tee. We let Dail hit.- He
missed the green by about 20
feet to the left. It must have
been one of those days as 1
went up and chipped it in. for
a two.
A one - two finish to a
great round of golf, a great
team event, and memorable
.occasion for us all. Way to go
Cam! Way to go team!
