Laser beam shot wins game for Cents
• Rookie goalie David Stonely picked up his first win as a
Seaforth Centenaire, Saturday night as the Cents played host
to Tavistock.
The Cents were coming off a tough loss to Kincardine the
night before; a game they felt they could have won.
"We were the better team for two periods," said veteran
Aaron Parsons.
Unfortunately, the Cents struggled with penalties in the
third and came out down 5-2. _
Saturday was a different story as the Cents controlled the
play a1160 minutes.
The Cents opened the scoring midway through the first
period but ended the period down -2-1 after a couple of
miscues.
• Tim Sills evened the score on a power play early into the
second with assistance from J.D. Nolan and. Adam Boshart.
'Newcomer David Ainsley scored his first goal as a
.Centenaire.putting Seaforth up by a goal until Tavistock tied
the game late in the second period.
Early in the third period, Aaron Parsons combined with
Ainsley to regain the lead for. Seaforth which held up until
5:46 of the third ,when .Tavistock capitalized on a tumover.at
the Cents bluelineto set up a dramatic finish tothe game.
Seaforth had many opportunities to score, hitting several
posts and missing wide open nets during the last three minutes
of the game.
With 36 seconds to go, returning defenceman Chris Fielder
walked in from the point on a power play .and tired a laser
beam that deflected into the top corner of the net. sealing the
victory for an elated Centenaire squad. -
"The guys worked hard all game and were thrilled at seeing
Fielder's shot hit the twine.'. said coach Jason Papple. "We
felt we were the better•team, it was good to come out on top.''
