Grant to fund local breast cancer screening
Cancer Care of Huron is being given a Community
Education Grant of 57,170 by the Ontario Chapter of the
Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) to fund "Rural
Strategies for Increasing Breast Cancer Screening in Huron
County."
This project is composed of three activities: breast self-
examination classes, a family physician information session.
and media/information promotion. It builds on proven
,t:ategies of promoting health messages to Huron County
ie-sidents. ' •
"It was so exciting to get the news of the grant," says Tricia
Wilkerson. Health -Promoter. Huron County Health Unit.
"We're u'ed.to a limited budget so it's great to have funding
that will allow us to broaden our message.about breast
health."
Funding comes from the CBCF Ontario. Chapter's
Community Education Grants Program which has allocated
• close to 5675,000 over the last four years. This submission
was examined and selected by CBCF's Ontario Chapter
Review Panel that is made up of breast cancer survivors.
