Gift of water

Seaforth Public Utilities Commission sent about seven tonnes (52;0001 of bottled drinking
' water to Walkerton last week after learning the town was running out of the donated water
that had been received earlier this summer when the town's water supply was contaminated
: with a deadly a -coli bacteria. Ready to ship off the water are PUC manager Tom Phillips, Reeve
lin Steffler, Mayor Dave Scott and PUC members Jim Sills and Joe Steffler.

Hospital looking
for community. support
From Paye 1
Seaforth Commiunity
Hospital.
The hospital's executive
board members met last night
to discuss how 'to reply, to the
advertisement. ,
"We're going to look at our
options," said Hak, adding a
decisionneeds to be made
quickly because the deadline
for submissions to the county
clerk is Aug: 2.
He is concerned if the
county moves the ambulance.
out of Seaforth, parts of
Huron East will be left
without an ambulance. Huron
East will be the new
municipalitycreated in
January 1 by joining Seaforth
and Brussels and
Tuckersmith, McKillop and
Grey Townships: the same
day the ambulance service is
taken over by the county.
With a new ambulance
location, he doesn't see how
some parts of McKillop
Township will be able to
receive a standard I3 -minute
response time to an
emergency call.
Hak said Seaforth
Community Hospital services
most of the area that becomes
Huron East in January and
must consider those
:municipalities as. it prepares
its expression of interest.
And response times could
be longer. particularly in
winter when road conditions
are bad. if the county doesn't.
choose to man those stations
for 24 -hours. On-call stations
could see paramedics leaving
their Seaforth homes, driving
to the station and then
driving back to Seaforth to
answer the call.
Meanwhile, the Huron
Perth Hospital Partnership is,
preparing its own expression
of interest. •
"We have to think- it
through in 'terms of what
we're looking at," said
Bonnie Adamson, chief
executiveofficer of the.
partnership.
Friday. ' she said • the
partnership hadn't had
enough time to talk about
what it would like to include
in the expression of interest
and that administration had.
just requested more details
about what the county needed
in those expressions.
In regards to the Seaforth
issue, she said "We haven't
had any discussion with local
council. We really don't have
a position yet," said
Adamson.
Although seeking support
from the partnership, Hak
said Seaforth Community
Hospital's expression of . ;
interest .will be . made
separately.
He also asked people with
concerns or suggestions
aboutthe ambulance
situation to get in contact
with hospital administration.
' Although they are still
trying to determine what to
do about the possibility of
losing the ambulance service.
he suggested letters of
support from the community
could be a help as .the
hospital board prepares its
expression of interest.
