HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2000-06-28, Page 13Surprise 7oth birthday gathering held St. Columban Parish family and community bid • farewell to Father Paul Mooney with a Mass of Thanksgiving and presentation this past Sunday at St. Columban Church. Father Mooney has generously and faithfully served this community for the • past two -and -a -half years. He will be • moving to St. Joseph's Rectory in Clinton. Father Mooney was presented with a tv/reading chair and many best wishes for the future from the whole community. 'Fran Malone hosted a surprise gathering of family, • relatives and friends for her husband, Jack Malone, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Jack. who is an avid golfer, arrived home tate, to find the party in full swing without him. There was much _. laughter as stories and , reminiscences were shared. Tom and Joanne Melady, Lisa and Danielle, hosted the annual Melady reunion with a large gathering which also included many neighbours and friends. Many from the % gathering participated in a huge" jam" session providing continuous entertainment during the day. Francie Melady, Jim Delaney, Lou Rowland and Tom Melady provided -some well known tunes. Warren, Eleanor and St. Columban Oka Baird Robinson provided Celtic music. Dave Kelly and his group, Steerage, Dave Scott, Don Kelly, Ted Schinbein and • Chris Ryan all provided musk and singing, while Sharon Kelly and By Mary C. friends entertained Ryan with some lively 345-2560 stepping. A bbcj was enjoyed by all. Bob and Theresa Adinans, Annie Cronin and Marie DeJong recently enjoyed a trip to the Martyrs' Shrine in Midland. Annie also spent a few days in Teeswater with her longtime friend, • Bonnie Mair. • Congratulations to Adam Nolan, son of Dan and Rhonda Nolan, and Vicki Lansink, daughter of John and - Penny Lansink, who were married at Si. James Church in Seaforth on June 24. Father Joseph Hardy officiated. The young couple will reside in Seaforth. Kirk and Todd Lane, sons of Barry and Susan Lane, Shrewsbury. Massachusetts, (near Boston) are visiting with relatives in the area • including their Grandma - Beuerman and Jack and Mary Catherine Lane. John and Lcnie Roks, Delaware, Frances Melady and John Van Beek visited with Tom and Joanne•Melady, Lisa and Danielle on the occasion of Danielle's birthday. Reg Swart, Ottawa, visited with his parents. Roy and Angeline Swart. The Grade 8 students at St. Columban. School held Graduation exercises at Si. Patrick's Church an• Dublin with Mass celebrated by Father Moe Charbonneau. A graduation dinner followed in the St. Patrick's Church Hall and a dance in the gym at St. Columban School. The young men camped out at Pat and Mary Anne Feeney's while. the young women camped out at Dan and Sharon Murray's. The students at St. . Columban School participated in a "Backwards Day," where everyone -dressed backwards. In recent soccer action -the St. Columban First Division. Team defeated Marconi 4-1 with contributions by John Jordan, Steve Ryan, Brian Melady and Kevin Meidinger. In the Men's Rec League action, St, Columban defeated Brussels 2=1. both goals "scored by Brent Hulley. They kept Lueknow to a one -all tie with Blaine Doran scoring for St. Columban. The team has again played Brussels defeating them 2-0. The St. . Columban goals in this game were attributed to Brent Hulleyand Liz Becker.
