Girls Band 4,
receives
funding

The Seaforth District High School All -Girls Marching Band
has received four years of funding from the Trillium
Foundation.
"It's wonderful news," says band executive member Shirley
Brugger. "It takes a lot of pressure off. We've been duct -
taping instruments together until they won't work anymore."
Brugger says the band will receive $10,000 each year for
the first two vicars and then will receive $8,000 and $5,000 for
years three and tour.
.With a $22.00) annual budget. Brugger says the band will
still have to continue all of its fundraising efforts and will
continue asking local service groups and municipalities for
donations. '
"We're still going to need the help of the community," she
says
Bruggcr says the Trillium funding will be put towards
running the band. covering the costs of transportation,
paperwork and buying sheet music. •And, she says the grant
will allow the hand to put some attention on fixing and
replacing some of the old and damaged instruments.
While the band recently bought a new $4,000 sousaphone,
it was able to have another one fixed at an autobody shop,
where'iff Asa pounded out. sanded and painted. for $100.
The hand also recently Nought two new clarinets at $450
apiece hut still needs a few more clarinets and a trombone.
The hand is planning an all -years reunion and barbecue for
July I at Lion's Park. sponsored by the Seaforth Lions Club.
The barbecue has been held for the past four years at
Goderich Harbour Park.
"I think it might he an attempt to keep the Seaforth spirit
aloe." she says.
The barbecue will also celebrate hand leader Charlie
Kalhtleish's 65th birthday.
"We're inviting everyone who was ever a band member to
come to the reunion and'bring all of their memorabilia. It's
going to he a good day." says Brugger.
