HENSALL DEFEATS CREDITON
IN 9th INNINGS
On Thursday evening of last
week the Crediton nine came to
town. and staged a league game with
the local crew, the latter winning
by the score of 8-5. When the vis-
itors steped onto/ the diamond it
looked as if the Hensall lads were
in for . a' severe trimming as neither'
of the other teams have been able
to beat this snappy nine and they
looked fornidible and. confident.
Motz, the stellar southpaw took the
mound for Crediton and went well
all through except in the 1st of the
9th when the local boys hit him:
freely:, The game was a real exhi-
bition from start to finish the teams
being very evenly matchced, al-
though Hensall had the lead most
sof the time, the score being 5-2 till -
the beginning of the 7th when Cred-
iton, with the heavy end of their
batting order up connected with
Venner's slants quite freely and
shoved across three runs to tie the
score, 5 all, one run however not be-
ing earned. when Venner, in disgust
at a decision at the plate threw
down his glove and ball, the latter
rolling down between 1st and 2nd
base, allowing the Crediton runner
on third to score. At the 1st of the
9th the Hensall team staged a bat-
ting rally and : before it was over
three runs had crossed the plate
and in the last of the 9th the Credi-
ton sluggers failed to make a tally
which ended the game, 8-5 in Hen-
sall's favor. Venner in the box for
the locals went well until the 7th
when three runs were scored on
him after which he was relieved by
Wilson Brintnell who finished the
game. Batteries, for Crediton
Motz and Palmer; for Hensall—
Venner, Brintnell and. Hedden.
