Province's extra funding will go to teacher salaries From Paye 1 discontinuation of $1 million in stable funding provided by the province during, dhe phase-in period of the new funding formula and a $600.000 decrease in OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees' Retirement System) funding. "Most of the provincial increase is going into teacher salary increases," she said. Trustee Ray Ford said that since the province has targetted a salary increase for teachers in its latest funding increase, negotiations could be difficult between teachers and the school board. "I'm not suggesting some employees aren't deserving of a raise but since the increases are being prescribed by the province. maybe the province should go ahead and negotiate themselves with, the teachers." he said. Baird-Jadkson said increases to the foundation grant of $62 per pupil at the elementary level and $141, per pupil at the secondary level, are being made to provide an increase in teacher salaries. The increase provides no money for salary increases for support staff, including educational assistants, no money to cover increased 'costs in transportation or fuel increases, and no changes to the accommodation grant envelope. "If 1 might summarize. it doesn't seem to be a pretty ' picture," said acting chair Bob Allan. Tough Enough The New Holland L5 yard tractor is tough enough for year 'round use. Dunbar expects the work of the transition committee to go smoothly with staff and councillors all with positive attitudes about the process. He said other municipalitie's have encountered stumbling blocks toward forming the new municipalities through such issues as the location of the municipal offices. Dunbar said in Huron East's case, they have already agreed to place those offices in Seaforth, the largest population centre in the new municipality. He said the three strong rural municipalities. combined with the larger population concentrations of Brussels, Seaforth and Vanastra, a small population centre located in Tuckersmith Township. provide a rural 'and urban balance that he doesn't predict will snake working out final restructuring plans to he difficult.
