Four vounpeople joing to Dominican Republic
Jonathon Elston, Julie Seiler,
Paul Sanders and Becky DeVries
are four local young people
preparing to go on the annual trip
to the Dominican Republic scheduled for Feb. 26 to Mar. 4.
The group will be accompanied by Father Joseph
Hardy, of London, and will visit in Consuelo, D.R.,
as part of this experience of seeing how the people
there live and work. Consuelo was one of the
missions where local native, Father Frank Moylan,
worked for many years.
A retreat weekend was held for all the group as
part of their preparation for the "D.R." experience.
Each of these young people has been doing
fundraising to help uteet the expenses of this
experience. Anyone, interested in more information,
or in helping out, could contact any of these young
people.
A well-deserved standing ovation topped the very
enjoyable Thursday evening performance of "Guys
and Dolls" presented by the senior classes at Upper Thames
School in Mitchell. It was inspiring to see the participation,
St. Columban
dedication, hard work and talent
that went into this project. The
young people involved deserve
much credit, as do the adults.
whose support and encouragement were evident.
The C.W.L. Annual Fun Night held in Exeter this
past week was an enjoyable evening of fun and
fellowship. A potluck supper was followed by musical
entertainment provided by Audibly Awesome Quartet.
The highlight of the evening was storytelling and
music played on the Paraguayan folk harp by Eduard
and Christine Klassen.
Eduard shared his story of growing up in a family of
six 6p ys in extreme poverty. When Edulittd was seven
old #Id, his Dad brought home a radio, and Eduard fell
in ve with the music. He also credits the Christian
missionaries with showing them a better way of life. He
told of his life's journey from his native land to our
country.
Guy Lajoie will be at St. James Church on Thursday,
Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. to make a presentation of "Jubilee Year."
Everyone is invited to attend this informative evening.

Residents and students play crokinole
A touch of Scotland was in the air
during the month of January as
residents celebrated Robbie Burns Day..
Gladys Van Egmond and Elgin Nott
entertained with many Scottish tunes.
Marian Rose also provided a tribute to
the Scottish with many piano favourites.
A special visit from pupils of Chuck
Mallot's class was enjoyed as they
played a challenging game of crokinole
with residents.
Residents tried theirhand at a game
Maplewood Manor
of.Trivial Pursuit and found that there
was still lots to Team. Games of
crokinole, bingo and crafts. were also
enjoyed with our very special - -
volunteers.
Bill Gibson and Jim McCallum each
entertained residents with their piano
music during the month.
Church services enjoyed over the
month were led by Rev. Vandermey,
Pastor Corriveau and by Rev. Hiscox.
Residents certainly appreciated the
generosity of Elgin Nott who shared
videos of the Plowing Match church ,
service, the Grand Olde Opry of the 50S
and also the Huron Strings video.
Hope you can: join us at our
Valentine's Day party with the Huron
Strings on Monday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.

The special years will not return,
When we were at together.
But memories live deep within our

And keep you with us forever,
So treasure him Lord,
In your garden of rest,
For here on earth,
He was truly the best.

RYAN: In loving memory of Maurice
who passed away February 8,
1998.
As time goes by without you,
Maurice,
As the days tum into years,
They hold a million memories,
And a thousand silent tears,
We often sit and reminisce,
And have a laugh or two.
Fondly telling stories,
Of the things we used to do.
They bring a laugh, often a tear,
But always a wish that you were
here.
- Loved always, forever mssed and
never forgotten. - Jean 46.06xtcc

Howard Cartwright, dear husband,

brother, brother -In-law and uncle
who passed away February 12,

God looked around his garden and
found some empty spaces,
He then looked upon the earth and
saw your tired faces.
He saw the road was getting tough
and the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
and whispered 'Please be Thine.'
He put His arms around you and lift-
ed you to rest,
God's garden must be beautiful for
He only takes the best.
