Annual a -H awards day winners

Twelve project awards
'were presented to Vincent
Bauer. Brent Black. Tonya
Dross, Zack Fielder. Darcy
Flanagan. Victoria
Gutmanis, Mary Huizinga.
Rebecca Johnston. Jennifer
McLean and Jeni Maize.
Eighteen project awards
were presented to Drew
Black, Sarah Broadfoot
and David VandenHoven.
Michelle DeWit was
presented with her 24
project award. Laura
Wilkins was presented
with her 30 project award
and Christina DeWit
received her 42 and 48
project award.
The Huron County
branches of the Canadian
Imperial Bank of
Commerce presented
Thomas Deuschle, the 4-H
dairy club member with
the highest overall score in
the county, with an award.
He scored 923 points out
of a possible 1000 points.
Elliott Insurance of
Blyth donated a trophy to
the Champion Dairy Calf
at the Seaforth Fall Fair.
This year's winner was
Barbie Miller. '
The Huron Holstein Blue
Awards are presented to
the. 4-H dairy club
members with the first and
second highest score in the
county who had a holstein
calf. With a score of 896
out of 1.000 the first place
winner was Adrian
Gutensperger. The dairy
calf club memher with the
,econd highest score in the
county who exhibited a
holstein calf was Lukas
Gutensperger with a score
of 887 out of 1.000.
The Auburn Co-op
Trophy is donated by the
Auburn Co-op to the 4-H
member in Huron County
who exhibited the Reserve
Champion 4-H Dairy Calf
at the Seaforth Fall Fair.
This year's winner was
Thomas Deuschle.
The Bank of Nova
Scotia. Goderich Branch,
presented Jonathan Miller
an award for being the top
Novice Dairy Showman at
the Seaforth Fall Fair.
. The Huron Bay'Co-op
award is donated to th.e
Champion Dairy Showman
at the Seaforth Fall Fair.
This year's winner was
Thomas Deuschle.
D & D Glass of Vanastra
donate a trophy to the
Reserve Champion Dairy
showman at the Seaforth
Fall Fair. Kora Bennett
was this year's winner.
The Huron County Beef
Producers' Award is
donated to the first year
beef club member with the
highest score. The winner
this year was Jessie
VanLoo.
The YIS Financial
Award is presented by
Lawrence Bean of Kippen
to the champion senior
beef showman at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. This
year's winner was Brent
Black.
Maple Ridge Beef Farm
Award is presented to the
Champion Junior Beef
Showman at the Seaforth
Fall Fair. This year's
winner is Andrew Toll.
A new award this year
was the W.J. (Bill) Sproul
Memorial Award. It was
donated by the Auburn
Lion's Club and was
presented to the top beef
group of three at the
Seafonh Fair. The winners
of Group 3 are from the
4
Lucknow Beef Club.
The Jan Hayward Award
is presented to the goat
club memher with the
highest score. Sarah
Broadfoot, who had a
score of 912 out of a
possible 1.000. was the
winner this year.
The Kootstra Farms
Award is presented to the
novice 4-H memher in the
Huron Goat Club with the
highest "score. The winner
was Joanne Passchier.
The Hensall Co-op,
Zurich Branch award was
presented to the Goat Club
member who put forth an
outstanding effort. The
winner of the award of
merit was Amy Barnes.
The Neil McGavin award
was presented to the 441
memher with the highest
score in the Huron County
Plowmen's Club. Gerrid
Dalton was this year's
winner with 873 points out
of a possible 1,000.
The Royal Bank award,
'donated by the
Huron/Perth Agricultural
Centre of the Royal Bank
in Exeter, was presented to
first year member Tyson
Arts of the 4-H Sodbuster
Club for having the
highest score.
The Ross Gordon Award
is donated by Ross Gordon
of Seaforth to the 4-H
Sodbuster member who
had the best crown at the
4-14 Junior Day at the
Huron County Plowing
Match. This year's winner
was Gerald Corbett.
The Townsend Tire
'Award is presented to the
youngest 4-H memher
active in the Sodbuster
Club. Matt Devereaux was
this year's winner.
Ian Gordon was the
winner of the Agvise
Award. presented to the
memher with the highest
total points at the
International Plowing
Match.
The Sodbuster Leader
Awards are presented by
the leaders . of the
Sodbuster Club. The first
award is for the memher
with the top land plowed at
the achievement program
by a competitive plow.
THis award was won by
Ian Gordon. The second
award is for the top land
plowed, at the achievement
program by a non-
competitive plow. and was
won by Tyson Arts.
The Doug Kennedy
Award is donated to the
Reserve Champion Sheep
Showman at the Seaforth
Fair. This year's winner
was Rebecca Bruton.
The Helen Johns Award
is presented to the
Champion 4-H Sheep
Showman at the Seaforth
Fair. The 1999 winner was
Suzanne Coleman:
The Old MiII Award was
presented to Stephanie
Munday. a sheep club
member who earned the
highest score with her 913
points out ,of a possible
1.000.
The Canadian
Cooperative wool growers
donate an award to the 4-H
member who had the
Champion 4-1-I Fleece at
the Seaforth Fall Fair. The
winner this year was Matt
Snell.
Recognition awards were
presented to the following:
top ticket seller. David
VandenHoven. S6I2;
second highest ticket
seller. Corrine Bos. $559:
third highest ticket seller.
Shawn VanDyk, $200.
The Paul Steckle
award is presented to the
Huron -County 4-H junior
memher who submitted the
top essay on the topic
"What 4-H Has Meant To
Me As A Member In
Huron County". The
winner was Michelle
DeWit.
Ttie Warden's Novice
Award is donated by Carol
Mitchell. Warden of Huron
County for 1999. The
award goes to the novice
4-H memher obtaining the
highest standing on the
Basis of Awards in Huron
County. Joanne Passchier.
a member of the Huron
Goat Club. with 908 points
out of 1,000, received the
award.
The Don Pullen Award is
donated by Don Pullen. a
former agricultural
representative 'with the
Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture. Food and
Rural Affairs in Clinton. It
is awarded to the 4-14
memher in Huron County
receiving the highest
number of points on the
basis of awards for 441
club work in 1999. This
year's winner. with 941
points out of 1.000 and a
member of the Huron
Sheep Club. was Sarah
Broadfoot.
The Murray Cardiff
Citizenship Trophy is
presented to the 4-11
member in Huron County
who hest exemplifies 'the
goals and aims of 4-H.
Their involvement in the
4-H program. as well as
organizations in their
community. church and
school are all considered.
Other aspects such as their
leadership roles. ability to
communicate and overall
attitude are very important.
The nominees must be
senior 4-H members and
have been involved with 4-
H for a number of year,.
All club leaders were
asked to nominate
members from their club
who they felt qualified for
this awarded. The
following people were
nominated: Sarah
Broadfoot. Gerald Corbett.
Jonathan Drennan and
Robyn Etherington.
These 4-14 members hese
contributed in some way to
their 4-H clubs and their
community. In their own
way they have tried to put
into practice what they
think good citizenship
means. These four
candidates should he
congratulated for trying
through their 4-H and
community involvement to
make their comrnunit,
Netter place to live.
In the end the interview
panel ,had to choose one
award winner. The .1999
recipient of the Murray
Cardiff Citizenship Award
was presented to Robyn
Etherington of the Huron
Sheep Club.
