That's the date a restructuring plan would come into effect for Seaforth, Brussels and the Townships of McKillop. Tuckersmith and Grey. The restructuring committee. consisting of council membets and staff from each of those municipalities. voted to accept that name at a meeting last Thursday. after going over the results of a name poll conducted at a recent public meeting in Seaforth. The municipalities involved in the restructuring held a contest to generate names from the public for the new community. - The committee narrowed that list of submissions down to one with,12 names including SeabreyMcTuck; Tanglewood, Huronville and Huron Tract. At last month's restructuring meeting to give an overview of how the new municipality would look. the public was invited to give their preferences to three of the names. Seaforth Administrator. The restructuring committee looked at those and chose Huron East with some discussion about the name needing to start with Huron to more easily identify the area. The proposal is expected to be endorsed by all the municipal councils and has already been forwarded to Huron County and the Mipistry of Municipal Affairs. Approval has to be received from all three levels for the restructuring plan to be implemented. McLachlan expects an answer from Huron County in January but said they don't know when they will hear from the province. He told Seaforth council last week there were some minor questions or concerns with the proposal after both levels of government gave it an initial look but does not anticipate any serious concerns with how the plan has been put together; Once approved, an implementation committee will form and the five councils will begin taking steps for a full merger on January 1. 2000 with one, new council taking over for the new municipality. The original municipalities will existas wards under the new structure. with board on funissue or press, he said, adding he can't think of why they would object to a positive approach from council. But he added that they have already decided against positive steps toward attracting students such as an agriculturally based program that Was proposed last school year that would see students billeted from other communities to Seaforth where thcy would take part in an agriculturally focused curriculum. _. Council decided to send a letter to the board offering its support in seeking the return of this area's rural designation with a follow-up telephone ca' II toseek a direct response. If the board reacts positively, a : Tetter will be sent out to other municipalities to ask for their support in approaching the Ministry of Education. That shows a willingness to - cooperate and that we're concerned the rural area he recognized, said Scott. Council has already sent a letter to Huron County asking county council for its support and letters to the school board stressing the impact to the whole county if schools in north- and central Huron County are closed. as indicated by a tentative five- year plan of the board. It was not received in time for county council's December meeting but Seaforth council is hoping to get the county's support next month. During ,the discussion about school closures, Scott also encouraged the community to continue sending 'letters to the .board and' congratulated everyone who took part in recent public meetings the board had called to hear concems from the community.
