A mural painted for the International
•Plowing Match is up for bids and council
• isn't sure whether or not it should try to get
the mural for Seaforth. - • • • -
It was.painted by artist•Allen Hilgendof
who is painting-murals•for the Business
Improvement Area's- mural project.
• including one already on a. Main Street
huildtng depicting the Seaforth All -Girls
• Marchlne Band. -
. The IPM mural depicts all four matches
that have taken place in Huron County
•includinc one that was on property owned by•
Mayor Dave Scott's family.
The 40 -toot •mural. is open for bids from
municipalitte. \ ho may want -to giye'the •
painting'a permanent • home. .
Mayor Dave Scott said the Seaforth
Agricultural Society or the Seaforth and -
District Community.. Centres might have,the
only walls that could support a mural of that,
.I/e.
"Why' wouldn't the (ounty put it up in
.Goderich.- said Coun. dike. Hak. suggesting
Huron County should purchase it and display
it in Goderich. the county seat.
He said there. everyone could see it.
"i think .it's more appropriate. there than
hanging It on a wall in. some other town." he
said.
Reeve Lin Steffler said that would hc
appropriate since the•mural depict.pigw'n_
. matches that took place not only..tn SeaHr...
but in Wingham and the Goderich area
well:
But Deputy. Reeve Teall ,.,:..•
how active the Seaforth Agricultural SOcicts •
is: they might -be interested in h
chance to own the mural. .
It'd be us supporting them. hc s.t
Hak said if they weren't intcreste
would.' still be better to have Huron (• .: t .
purchase it.
"It'd be great to have it in. to•..`:
somewhere but Mike has'a valid point. -
Scott, suggesting it might be •po•.lh':
move it from town to town. • ' -
He said they should at least cont, aet the
agricultural society to sec'- if .they ser:
interested in acquiring the mural.
Teall asked whether. or not Seat rth•ha.!
the biggest agricultural society. in Hurn',
County. -
While he said there might be argument.
from others. Administrator Jack McLachlan
said. "'Chis is probably the biggest." •
Coun. Paul Menai.> said the agricultural
society is the only building --that could house
a mural of that size in Seaforth.
"It was a magnificent piece." .aid Stefller
"I've• heard rumours they were requested it',
take it to the Royal Winter Fair (in Toronto
next month)."
