It was a resounding success in spite of the fact that headliner, Moe Norman, was ill and unable to make it to the scheduled golf clinic. We are all looking forward to the rescheduled clinic and will keep all participants apprised of the situation. Dan Halldorson and Ken Venning did an excellent job filling in for Moe and everyone agreed that it was an excellent part of the day. Mike Watt was the captain of the winning team, which was comprised of four gentlemen from Ainsdale Golf Club in Kincardine, including owner Al McKay. Watt's team shot an incredible 20 under par 51 to edge out Dan Halldorson's team of young Seaforth members,, Reegan Price, Keegan Teichert, Bruce Griffin and Sean Beattie by a single shot. All subsequent prizes were decided by a draw. The celebrity silent auction raised a considerable sum for the charity and all participants agreed it was a great day. As the summer season winds down, a number of events are continuing at the club. Junior morning wrapped up on --Aug. 3,1 and last week, the Junior Invitational was held with more than 80 young golfers By Carolanne Doig taking part from as far away as Niagara Falls and Stouffville. Keegan Teichert won the Junior Division in a playoff with a fine round of even par 71. Lindsay McEwan won the girls division. Other Seaforth youngsters fared well and and the tradition of excellent junior golf continues through the 1999 season. In Match Play the following results and matches are available: Juniors: Korey Nash must play off against Shawn Van Dyk. Keegan Price must play off against Curtis Bennett. The winner of these matches will play in the final. Seniors: Joe Dick defeated Denis Woolley and is headed to the. final. Dave Sparks defeated Ron Stephen and awaits Ken' Doig Sr. and Bill Weber to play off. Ladies: Cathy Elliott plays Betty Burns in the final. Mens: Kevin Bennet! meets Jerry Wright. Cam Doig meets Todd Doig. Joe Dick meets the winner of the Chris • Marion vs Bruce Griffin match. On Sunday, the first round of the 36 -hole 1999 Club Championship was held with the following scores posted. The total of the 'two 18 -hole rounds will decide the champions. Sept. 5 This week the Huron County Roads Superintendents: have their annual golf outing on Wednesday and the tee will be closed between 9 and 10:30 a.m. There are still some openings in the Mens Invitational scheduled for Sept. 11. It's a great day so don't forget to sign up. Seaforth tourney sees 65 teams in play The Seaforth Lawn Bowling Club hosted its 20th consecutive anniversary double draw tournament at the Seaforth Greens on Aug. 25 with 65 teams in play. With threatening skies overhead and rain falling in the aftemoon, the tournament was called after two complete games by both' draws. Top prize' winners for the day were 1st, Dennis and Shirley Schmidt, Goderich; 2nd, Bill Baxter and Maureen Thompson, London Fairmont; 3rd, Bill Furlong and partner of Ingersoll, '4th, Ed and Edna Braithwaite of Sarnia; in 5th place was Bob Thompson and Doris Hackney of Exeter; 6th went to Ed and Ellen Edwards of Heritage Greens ;Club. St. Columban wins senior league The St. Columban senior soccer team won their league championship in thrilling fashion last Thursday, as goalkeeper Matthew Simons' shootout goal allowed them to defeat Tavistock and claim the two -game, total -goal series, 11-10. St. Columban, after losing the opening gime on their home 3-2 Iat, Tuesday, rallied to win 5-4 Thursday, squaring the series 7-7 and forcing two five-minute overtime periods. In overtime, both clubs scoffed once, forcing the shootout. Shawn Ryan, Adam Ryan and Simons scored for St. Columban, as'they edged Tavistock 3-2 to win a thriller. Josh Dale and Shawn kyan scored twice in regulation play in Game 2i with Tim McClure adding the other marker. In the first game, Dale and Adam Ryan were the scorers. In league play, the team finished with a 9-2-3 record. Team members include Brent Cronin, John Crowley, Josh Dale, Lindsay Dawe, Mark Feeney, Darcy Flanagan, Tim McClure, Erica Murray, Leanne Murray, Mandy Murray, Adam O'Reilly, Gerard O'Reilly, Meaghan O'Reilly, Adam Ryan, Shawn Ryan, Matthew Simons and Bryan Van Bakel. Coaches were Dennis O'Reilly and Kevin Ryan. At the soccer round -up Friday in St. Columban, Adam Ryan won the Mike Coyne Memorial Trophy for team leadership and sportsmanlike play.
