Behind the scenes action at hockey school
sees Wildfong, others recruited last week
By Scott Hilg.ndorff

While Tots of new skills
were learned by more than
200 young hockey players,
the Dave McLlwain
Hockey School of the past
two weeks had some fairly
big benefits for some of its
staff too.
One of the biggest came
for Seaforth's Dan
Wildfong who has been on
staff at the school for
several years, who was
recruited last week.
Also a regular at the
school is Scott Muscutt of
the Shreveport, Louisiana
Mudbugs, a Western
Professional Hockey
League team. While he
plays for the team, he also
recruits for them and has
been keeping his eye on
Dan for the past few years.
Wildfong, who had been
looking at offers for east
and west coast leagues
with ties to the American
Hockey League and
International Hockey
League (IHL), stepping
stones to the NHL, had to
make a decision on the
Mudbugs.
Graham Nesbitt, arena
manager and coordinator
of the hockey school, said
Wildfong learned of a
newly forming link
between the Mudbugs and
a Quebec City team linked
to the IHL.
He chose .the Mudbugs,
still working toward the
NHL.
Joe Harris of Mitchell,
who played goalie in the
showcase hockey game in
the first week of the

school, was also recruited
by Muscutt. He played Jr.
B hockey in Listowel and
now, heads to Louisiana
from the University of
Waterloo. • -
Ken •Carroll of Petrolia
was also signed to an
amateur card •that allows
him to go to the Mudbugs
on a trial when he finishes
this year's hockey season.
With a total 209 students
at the school during the
two weeks, Nesbitt was
pleased with how , it
worked this year.
With the school over
now, he said, "We'll make
our little subtle changes
and get ready for next
year."
Changes they are
looking at are
enhancements to the goal
tenders program.
Nesbitt said they hope to
see more goal tenders take
part in. the school but'
regardless. want to. offer
them more in-depth
training.
