Now that it is in place. he said it is up to those.members to decide how else they might use the monumeni:Member names are currently kept in a'book in one of the Legion displays but Phillips said they -might want to • put those onto a plaque on the monument. The. . two OPP detachments were awarded grant money from the Ministry 'of the Solicitor. :. General Monday • allowing the extra spot checks for impaired driving to take place. •Seaforth has received 53.990 and Clinton has received 54.500 allowing 13 extra checks in Seaforth and 15 in Clinton. The grant 'Money 'pays for additional officers to be on duty exclusively operating RIDE checks. used to take impaired drivers off the road and deter others from drinking and driving.. The checks can be held at an time of day or night. and are in addition to.any RIDE 'checks police conduct as part of their regular duties. These exira.checks will take place until- Jan -15 at which time all the grant money must be used. The grant, money. used to' be incorporated into a program known as "festive RIDE" which concentrated spot-checks in December through the New Year's holidays at times when there are, many parties taking place. For the past couple years, the grant money can be used once it is awarded. Police detachments must apply for the additional funding. Several bicycles stolen from town Sc'eral bicycles were stolen In Seaforth last week. . The reported thefts included a • purple ladies' 18 -speed Triumph Challenger from a• Louisa Street residence, two bikes, including a'purple youth's 10 -speed Venture, from a Jarvis Street driveway and an orange Raleigh from an Ord Street house. All the bikes were recovered on Jarvis Street and returned to their owners. The . Huron OPP remind people to lock up their bikes to prevent them from being stolen.
