It seems l/kejust yesterday ive were scared kids on the bus Ryhendal(arnochan Huron Centennial taledictorian • Teachers. Parents and Fellow Graduates- Before 1 hem would.hke to thank my fellow classmates for •electing me-. for the honour of Nalcdictorian Tonight is a . time that se look' back on thelast nine years that most of us have spent here. Huron Centennial. We all have wonderful memories of nut time spent here. Most of ; them start hack on. September 4th. 1990. it seems like Just yesterday • that we were nding in on the • yellow buses full of excitement but a little scared and ready .for our first day of kindergarten. 11.was frightenmg,at first. • we'. were in' a new environment full of new things and for the most pan strangers. But •that soon changed from day one :we Kase all made friends -and •• our friendships have, blossomed over the years. Through the years school has got increasingly harder and we have all stumbled along- the way hut all .bumped right back up again. There are new friend. to he made in our future years at high school but .our friends at•present will ncser he forgotten All the friends. that we have made and :pent timc.with laughing °ser things -like Greg falling off the stage as he 'plased the part of Santa. or Dave casing .his speech at•the- front of the. class with his shirt tucked into his undies' and his pants hanging too. • low on his waist to hide it. The friends we have made over these last nine years are . not going to he. with us forever. We .must Icarn to_ fend for -ourselves and team to stick up• for -what -we- .believe in. 'and Icarn to accept the factihat we're all .• •moving in our. own, directions. Some of: the friendships we have` made will he drifting apart. here• tonight some will .be separated at the end of high school as we all veer our separate .wavy in fife whether it he to college.. • - unit'-ersity or maybe some of • us will -go straight into the, work force. But no matter` . • what direction we go in -or how far apart we are we will - alway s remember the friends that we had here at Huron Centennial • ' Hopefully we'll hump into CAC h'other again on -our Journey through hfe Through the years we have seen friends come and go and hopefully"thcy all felt accepted- as part of our group. Ten though we all hast our -own little clusters of friends we. arc really all friends and pre all part of • • one big group. As we move on: -and go our. se'paratc ways we all have- dreams •we would hke to sec fulfilled. Whetherit be Kevin being rn the WWF with Jcff as his bodyguard. .or, Grce McGrath and Jamie Stephenson being in the NHL. or having Emily- as -a• world, renown brain surgeon or maybe. even Denny as our.. next -Prime Minister. Some- of these things may really happen and well be: able to say: "Hey. I. went t(i H.C.S. with -that kid" and then ►t. will all be. clear to us that we really can he v hatever.we want as long as we' try sand give it- our hest; -we can achieve anything we put our minds to. As we goon in life things are going to change 'where. you lis c. whcrc sou go to school. ss ho sou )ri,e with. the different fobs ►ou- have and rn,ay he looking .after a family of your -own one day We will change with these things. because change is a good thing whether it seems like it at the time or not. It's not something tri complain about.: Just make the adjustments and get on with_ your hfe Our graduating tonight is another step in the direction of our ' uccess. -So remember that your dreams are important. Having a .dream•is magical not hasing- . a dream is foolish .As we leave tonight we will all -he ,walking out the doors of our past successes and accomplishments. We were the rulers of the accomplishments.. this past year and had lots of fun doing it. but we are also leasing behind being the big kids on'top. and the one: that:all the little kids look up to. When we go to school next: Sept. we' will all be faced with. new challenges, another new envir7sr.rrtet4 and many new strangers hut - it we do as well with high . school as we did public. school l•know 'we'll all he lust tine • Teachers allowed us to spread our wings and expand /wr/zons by their knowledge and example By Danielle Demes - St. Columban laledictorian Teachers. principal. Father. Tony. parents. guests and fellow graduates: ' -'As we make our way 'through life and growing up -we:can look behind us and imagine a set of stairs representing this; journey. The first steps are the tiny ones representing our first physical steps that we took as toddlers. After we had mastered the art of walking our world expanded our from our parents' side to a little .larger area covering the __ __s inside_of_theAtouse and our yard. We now had a wider - stew ot the world and the ability to. d.iscoxer new' • things on our own. • The neXt•steps hehind•us on the Journey are little • higher and a littler wider.• These new 'steps began on the lateful day .that our• .parents announced that "it's time tor sou to go to school'' For.some Of us this' was an exciting moment and for others not. When the big. d_ay •arrised we climbed or .were carried on the big- sellow-bus and were on our way to Si: Patrick's School. For:those of us with older brothers,or sisters•1'm sure • you can remember the tales that you had. heard about the • school: The teachers were • like drill sergeants in the army. the principal could read your mind-julwt try -- staring. at you:•and that you could get lost .in the •hallways_of the 'school and . never be seen again • To our. wondrous surprise. the teachers were kind and generous with their. hetes Congratulations to the class of '99 on a job well done! 1 K.
