Board
debates
private
insurance
sales to
students
Whether or not the board
should allow a private
company to solicit student
accident insurance through
the schools was questioned
at last Tuesday's meeting by
trustee Abby Armstrong.
"I don't think we should be
doing this. There's no
financial benefit to the board
and sending this material
home implies the board
thinks it's necessary. At the
- very least we should be
.letting a local .insurance
agent benefit from this," she
said.
Trustee Maggie Laprade
responded that her family
has always benefitted from
the . student accident
insurance offered through
the schools.
"Not everyone has private
coverage or access to group
insurance," she said.
Trustee Bob Allan said
he'd also be reluctant to•
discontinue offering the
accident insurance through
the schools since he's seen
many parents benefit from it
over the years.
Education director Lorne
Rachlis said the accident
insurance is _a traditional
service provided to parents
but that the board does not
have to continue it.
However,, the board. voted
to approve Seaboard Life.
Insurance as the carrier for
student accident insurance
until 2002.

Host families
still needed
for Thai visitors
Host families are still needed for residents of Thailand and
Canada coming to Seaforth for an agricultural exchange
program.
Erin McNamee of Canada World Youth said she is short
four of the nine farming families needed to host two of the
.exchange participants.
The program brings together one person from across
Canada and one from Thailand who will learn about areas of
agriculture and life in Canada.
This is the second year for the two-year program in
Seaforth.
"It's a really good opportunity for families with or without
kids to leam about Thailand," said McNamee.
Families taking part last year also learned more about
Canada since the Canadian counterparts come from across
the country.
Working with the Seaforth Agricultural Society. the
participants will work on community projects but will also
work on the farms where they live, learning from the
families as they take part in every day chores and activities.
Anyone willing to host two ofthe young people is asked
to contact McNamee at 527-1105.
