Olive opened with a poem "Spring Time. Beauty." Roll call was answered by eight members. Minutes of the April meeting were read by Doris Hugill. A thank you card from the 4-H.was received. The District Annual in Crediton was on May 20 and attended by Helen MacKenzie, Olive Papple. Jean Keys and Marjorie Rock. . The treasurer's report was given by Helen MacKenzie. A donation of $25 was given to the children's telethon. The meeting was turned over to boris Hugill. Dons read a poem "Mother" and gave the motto. She also ran the contest which Helen MacKenzie won. Lunch was served by the hostesses, Marjorie Rock, Marjorie Claus and Grace Scott. The next meeting will be a mystery tour on June 8. The meeting at Helen MacKenzie's is at 10:15. It is a potluck lunch and members need to`bring their own dishes and cutlery. Farmer's Market; began last Wednesday afternoon St. Columban Congratulations from the whole community to Tanya V,ansteelandt and Kevin Quipp vyho were married Saturday at St. Patrick's in Dublin. Tanya is the daughter of Ricki and Gilbert Vansteelandt, and Kevin is the son of Donna and Bill Qtiipp, Monkton. After a honeymoon trip for Vancouver, the young couple will reside in Mitchell. Monique De Witt. Gilbert Vansteelandt's aunt, is visiting from Belgium. After attending the wedding she is visiting with relatives in the area. There was a good turnout as' many people came to enjoy the food, fellowship and social evening at the annual local Knights of Columbus pork chop dinner and social. Gary Cronin, Frank Crowley and crew were at it again, serving up excellent barbecued pork chops for the occasion. Sister Rita Coyne, Windsor. visited with Ken and Mary Coyne and family. Kathleen and Kimberly von Euw attended the graduation exercises at the Toronto Convention Centre for Bill Ryan who graduated from the Toronto School of Business in Network and Communications Technology. The annual St. Columban Farmer's Market commenced for the season on Wednesday, May 26. A wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked goods and other sundry items will be available Wednesdays from 1 to 6 p.m. on the parking lot at Dianna's in St. Columban. Congratulations to the Grades 4-6 at St. Columban School whose junior girls baseball team won the championship at the two - pitch tournament held at St. Michael High School, Stratford, this past week. Congratulations to Tammy and Jamie Eisler, daughter and son of Paul and Mary Eisler, who each placed first in their category at tile second annual Talent Challenge held by the Mitchell Agricultural Spciety. Tammy performed a piano solo, while Jamie performed a vocal solo. Selected competitors will go on to perform at the Mitcrhell. Fall Fair. The London Division r St. Columban men's soccer team lost to Chatham City by a score of 2-1. The 'single•$t. Columban goal was put away- by Brian Melady with a beautiful. patented bicycle kick assisted by a cross from John Jordan. Jason Murray gave a great effort in net despite officiating setbacks. The St. Columban men's soccer team in the Hugon County Rcc League won over Goderich by a score of 4-3: Brent Hulley scored twice, while singles by Blaine Dooran and James Dick put the team on top. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to Bill and Martha Murray. Erica, Dianne, lan, Gregory and Randy, on the sudden loss of Martha's mother. Marie Van Eshroeck, Hensall. Corporal Joe Ryan. Camp Ziouani, Golan Heights, recently visited with his parents, Rori and Mary Ryan. Joe is currently on leave from his posting with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). Joe returns to his posting at the Golan June 6 where he will remain until early September. Upon his return, Joe will participate in the UNDOF Wadi Patrol endurance competition on June 11. Teams from all the UNDOF countries serving in the Middle East arc entered. The Wadi Patrol endurance competition consists of two patrols going 8 kilometres through the Wadi Gorge, the lowest point of sea level in Israel. The temperature is between 50-60 degrees. celsius at 125% humidity and competitors arc dressed in regular combat gear, not exactly a walk in the park. By Mary C. Ryan 345-2560
