crowd applaud if they agree,"
she says.
"I don't think the board had
any idea of the outrage that..
was out there until those large
meetings. If only 10 could
speak at a meeting. they"d
never hear that." says Finan:
Bonnie LaFontaine: a

the timing of the board's
three-month experiment
might limit public input
during a "very critical time"
when schools might again•be
facing closure.
LaFontaine agrees that the
large attendance at several
board meetings last fall with
as many as 24 delegations
were decisive in preventing
the immediate closure of
_schools. Seaforth District
High School was one of those
schools facing closure or
amalgamations with arca
elementary schools.
"Those schools would he
closing this fall if the Targe
number of delegations hadn't
attended those meetings." she
says.
