week at meeting of recreation
directors from long-term care
facilities and hospitals -i.
Huron. Perth: and.Ox.ford
Counties- to -talk about
different. horticultural
projects they could use at
their facilities.
One of the suggestions -was
to have projects where
residents grow different types
of plants they may not have
encountered.in their Own
gardens over the years. like.;
alpine strawberries.. •
The berries can be grown 1
on a window ledge and she.
said the garde-ners can look
forward to watching them
grow and produce fruit they
can eat.
For someone in a nursing
home. she said (hose berries
go a long way toward-
building their Self-esteem at
seeing them .grow and
develop, ,to_ providing
something new to talk about.
