Poll shows Tuckersmith'
favours western neighbours
Poll conducted by supporters
of western amalgamation
but say they knocked on all doors

That was the result of a
poll conducted by 15
township volunteers between
May 1 and May 3, prior to
last Tuesday's public meeting
in Brucefield to discuss
restructuring.
While the poll was led by
Bernie MacLellan. Dave
Townsend presented the
results at the meeting.
He said all Tuckersmith
Township . homes- - were
visited from Egmondville .to
Brucefield but some
ratepayers- at the meeting
voiced concerns they weren't
not able to return to places
where no one had been at
. home.
• The poll included an
anonymous- ballot for which
direction people wished to
go: with Seaforth and
McKillop Township or with
Hay and Stanley Township
and Brucefield. Henson and.
Kippen. Thcy could also
respond with no opinion.
Residents wcrc also asked,
to sign a separate part of -the
ballot which was used to
ascertain the same number of
ballots were submitted by the
same number of signatures.
There were 1.061
responses or 45 per cent of
eligible voters..
"More people participated
in this poll than in the last
-municipal election." he said.
Townsend said residents
were pleaded to be able to
have the input.
Council was asked if they
would acknowledge the poll
results. -

.because of how it was
conducted: .
• Reeve Bob Broadfoot said
he would . consider the
figures. `'It's. just
information, same as
everyone is presenting, he
said. e
Coun. Doug Vock and
Deputy Reeve Bill DeJong
said they would accept the
poll.
According to the results,
10 per cent of the people
polled had no opinion while
28 per cent.were in favour of
amalgamating with Seaforth
and McKillop Township.

council resumed its regular
meeting and began talking
about what path to,takc for
restructuring.

charged with possession of
stolen property after 'a
Seaforth resident reported
information about a•trailer
he believed had been stolen
from him last August..
It had becntaken Aug. 16
from his Victoria Street
residence.
Police investigated and
recovered the-six-footby
eight -foot trailer from a
residence 'near
Londcsbomugh on May 8.

While Vock had been in
support of MacLellan, who
would. have voted in favour
of thc MRC. group minutes.
earlier. he cast his vote in
favour, along with MacLeod.

Spittal suggested that
Tuckersmith. McKillop and
Scaforth reapproach the
MRC group later to sec

larger municipality.

resident asked if any of, the
pollers came from the eastern
side of the township and said
he doesn't think it was
scientific.
Townsend said the pollers
were led by MacLellan who
is a supporting of
amalgamating to the west.
Council was criticized by
ratepayers for not seeking the
same information that the
pollers gathered on their
own.
