McClure remembers
office fire n 1979
during her 28 years and
remarks thatpoliticians in
McKillop Township are more
often acclaimed than elected
to their positions on township
council.
"We must have a very
satisfied bunch 'in McKillop
Township because therle's
very rarely an electiQn.
During the last election' in
1997, we didn't receive one
enquiry about running for
council." she says.
McClure says that even
though she doesn't always
agree with township council,
she's enjoyedworking with
all the councillors and doing
the work of carrying out their
decisions. =

can be done through
retirements. rather than
anybody being forced to

One of. McClure's most.
vivid memories from the past
-2ti years is the fire at the'
township office in 1979..
which wasstarted by
someone who'd broken into
the vault but found nothing
valuable to steal.
"There was.a lot of smoke

minute hooks were destroyed
but it was more of a nuisance
than a disaster. it took two
months to. get things hack in
order:" she recalls.
•Over the years-. she's
watched the township
changing with declining.
populations and declining
`numbers of farm owners with
thc rise'of larger farming
operations. She's also been
part: of zoning by-laws that
stipulate where buildings

how far away livestock must
he located from neighboring
residents.
As well. she's participated
in a program which has

McClure has worked with
only four different reeves,
including Allan Campbell,
