Sixteen -year-old Trevor Ward, of Seaforth, holds the team photo of the Palmerston Posse

first ride on a plane and his
first gold medal after
competing for the first time
in a national competition at
the Canadian Broomball
Championships.
"I was nervous before
every game but I had fun. It
was good." says Trevor.
But. to his Palmerston
teammates. the gold medal
wasalmost secondary to
Trevor's goal in a semi-final
game that heat their rivals
from Quebec in a 1-0 game
that landed them in the gold -
medal game. .
"I think they would have
been happy just beating the
Quebec team even if they
hadn't won the gold." says
Trevor's dad Trent. "The
Quebec team had been gold
medallists for the past two
years. They beat Palmerston
last year and went on to win

Trevor was picked up by

in Leduc. Alberta March 25-

Seaforth's juvenile boys team
e team for
three weeks before going to
the "nationals. Palmerston has
been the provincial
broomball champion for the
past four years.
"The coach told ,me he'd
been watching Trevor last
year but didn't take him
because he was -still at the
midget level. He said he now
wished they'd taken him last
year hecause'he was good
enough to go." says Trent.
Trevor's been playing
broomball since he was six
and Trent says he chose
broomball over hockey
because the game is cheaper
with games only once a week
and no travelling.
Palmerston scored one goal
early in the first period and
fought to hold onto its t-0
lead the whole game.
Despite the fact that Trevor
has played defence during
the past two ".years in
Seaforth, he played forward
atthc`nationals.but says. "it
wasn't a big deal to switch
because I've got experience
doing both."
He adds that the play was
"a little more physical" than
he- is used to but, despite
several injuries on the team.
