Tyke South Division Championship on the weekend in Goderich. "This was a fitting way to end the season," said coach Ralph Currie. "The boys played their hearts out and really deserved to win." The playdown began on Saturday, March 27 with the local squad facing Clinton. After going scoreless for the first 30 minutes. Seaforth erupted for four goals in a 6 1/2 minute span of the final period to put this one away. Tyler Hart played a strong game in net for the shutout. Seaforth's offense was led by Tyler Listman with 2 goals and Josh Shea and Haden Campbell with a goal apiece. The A semi final was played -later on Saturday against Hensall. Seaforth had little problem shutting down Hensall's offense with some strong defensive play. The Stars offense scored early and often in this 6-1 victory. Patrick Morris opened the scoring • Seaforth Stars won the WOAA Tyke South Division Championship on the weekend in Goderich. on a nice setup from Campbell. Tyson Avery scored 4 unassisted goals, using his great speed to break past Hensall's defense. The prettiest goal of the game came on a feed from Listman from behind the net to Josh Gerber who was set up in the- slot. Gerber onc timed it past a sprawling Hensall goalie. The A final, played on Sunday. March 28, pitted thc Stars against their division rival, Goderich. In 6 previous meetings this season, each team had posted three wins. Just 30 seconds into the game, Seaforth found themselves down by a goal, but that Novice stay on top all season becoming WOAA champs While expectations were good. no one expected the Seaforth Novice Rep team to be as undefcatable as they were. "They never lost any games through the entire season," said Jim Campbell, proud coach of the team. And they never lost any games in the playoffs that saw the tcam win the WOAA Novice Championship on March 22. Campbell said on paper, the team looked good but on the ice, the exceeded all their expectations. One of thc highlights for the season was winning thc Regional and then international Silver Stick Tournaments. Campbell said that feat. that takes them against some of the toughest teams in Canada and the United States. was more difficult than winning the playoffs. It marks the novice's first WOAA win in 10 years and Campbell said, "We won it in a fairly easy fashion." The tcam has played undefeated since Nov. 8. "That's thc biggest thing that surprised me. is they never lost," said Campbell. instead. they kept getting stronger and harder to beat as thc season continued. Their record stands at 49 wins, three losses and a tie. ' The losses came in exhibition and tournament play, early in the season. He said the team was surprised a few weeks ago when Campbell pointed out to them that, at that point, they had won 35 -straight games, he said they were surprised by their success. Thcy realized then that they could heat almost any team but never stopped working. Campbell thinks one of their strengths is the fact they have about five good goal scorers on the team. Others tend to have two but with that many on the team, he said they can put out two strong lines with any 10 of their players and not be stopped. It took them to the WOAA. would be it for Goderich. "Hart played a strong game in net, and the defense cleared the puck well" said Currie. • The line of Campbell. Morris and Jordan Currie really started to click. Tenacious forechecking repeatedly - caused turnovers in the Goderich end and at 9:12 in Campbell evened the score on a setup from Morris and Currie. Six minutes later Seaforth went ahead for good when Campbell stole the puck in- the corner, walked out untouched and slid it under the Goderich netminder. Morris added some insurance midway through the final period on a setup from Campbell' and Brent Vincent. Campbell completed the hat trick with only eight seconds left in the gamc when he caught Goderich's defense up ice. "Everybody on thc team came to -play every day. This is ,not a team of onc or two superstars, but a team of 16 hardworking PHOTO SUBMITTED kids who make things happens when they are on the ice." said Currie.
