Wingham town council is
"strongly opposed" to the
closing or demolition of a
wing at F.E. Madill
Secondary School, said a
letter to the Avon -Maitland
District School Board at last
week's meeting.
"It appears to Wingham
council that the board is
attempting to rectify a
problem in Seaforth and as a
result will. in fact, only create
two problem areas, one in
Seaforth and one in
Wingham." says clerk -
treasurer John Stewart in the
letter. '
Some students from the
school would he bused to
Seaforth District High School
instead.
Stewart's letter calls the idea
to demolish a wing "totally
absurd." adding that the board
has spent "numerous dollars"
recently upgrading the wing
and installing new windows.
"If the building is not
structurally sound. when why
are our students still going to
classes in this area of the
school," he asks.
He adds that Wescast
Industries is expanding with a
new plant in - Morris
Council not

its plans
with county
Reeve Lin Steffler doesn't
think it's any of Huron County
council'srbusiness what type:
of restructuring talks Seaforth
is involved with and what kind
of progress it's making.
"I think this is nothing more
than a fishing exhibition," she
said regarding a request from
the county for specific
information regarding the -
municipality's restructuring
progress. A Jotter from County
Administrator Lynn Murray,
asked Seaforth what the status
of any of its restructuring
resolutions are and what their
target timelines. are for
restructuring. The information
was to be provided by Feb. 17.
County Council passed back
the issue of restructuring to
individual municipalities last
year after u'n4uccessfully
coming up with a county -led
plan to reduce the number of
Huron County municipalities.
Seaforth council has been
keeping its restructuring talks
behind closed dom.
Stefller said the county has
'no right to information that
hasn't been given to the
public.
"When our, own ratepayers
have no information. it's dirty
pool." she said.
Mayor Dave Scott pointed
out it is common knowledge
the town is sharing the
services of its administrator
with Tuckcrsmith Township
and that McKillop Township
is considering the same.
Deputy Clerk Cathy Garrick
said she will keep the response
to the county. "short and
sweet."

Township, resulting in "many
new jobs" and new families
moving to the area.
The letter also says the idea
of moving F.E. Madill
students to Seaforth District
Secondary School "does not
make any sense whatsoever"
since students will have to
make new friends, meet new
teachers and deal with a new
setting.
As well, the letter says that-
Wingham council worries that
removing students and
teachers will eliminate
courses and make it more
difficult for students to enrol
in courses they neeq for
graduation and future
schooling.
Senior kindergarten student Jessica Ryan cuts out things
that she loves on Valentine's Day at Seaforth Public School.
