Huron County 4 -II winners honoured
Members of Huron County
4-H clubs were honored for
their achievements during the
4-H Awards Day Program
held in Clinton recently.
Following are some of the
results.
-.The Doug Kennedy Award
was donated by Doug
'Kennedy of Thamesford to.
the reserve champion sheep
showman at the Seaforth Fair.
This year's winner is
Stephanie Munday.
The Helen Johns Award is
donated by MPP Helen Johns
to the champion 4-H sheep
.showman at the Seaforth Fair.
The .1998. winner was Laurie
Rodges.
The Old Mill Award was
donated by the Old.Mill,
located one mile south of
Blyth, to the sheep 'club
member with the highest
score. Previous winner are
ineligible so the ' 1998 winner
with a score of 935 out of a
possible 1.000 .is Derek,
Maloney.
The Canadian Cooperative
Wool Growers donate an
award to the 4-1-1 member who
,had the champion 4-H fleece
.at the Seaforth Fall Fair.' The
-winner this year was Robyn
Etherington.
The Bank of Montreal
Award is given -to the first
year 4-1-1 Swine Club member
with the highest score. This
year's winner was Brett Bean
with a score of 908outof a
possible 1,000. . •
The Ed Watson Award is
donated -by Ed Watson of.
Blyth to the 4-H member with
the champion 4-H market pig
.at the Seaforth Fall Fair. The
recipient was Allan Storey.
The Huron County Pork'
Producers' Award is donated
by the Huron County Pork
Producers' Association to the
• member obtaining the highest
score in the 4-1-1 Swine Club.
Rob Vanden Hoven with a
score. of 922 out of a possible
1.600 received the award. - .
The National Trust Award
is presented o the champion 4-
.1i
.H swine showman at. the
Seaforth Fall. Fair: It is
donated by National Tnist or
Goderich. This year's winner
was Rob Vanden Hoven.
The Huron County Pork
Producers' Award is donated
hy. the Huron County Pork
Producers to the reserve
champion showman at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. Becky
Rodges received the award.
The Bergsma Award is
donated by Bruce and Marie
Bergsma and family of
Londesboro to the 4-H swine
_club member. exhibiting the
champion 4-H gilt at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. Becky
_Rodges is this year's winner.
Vincent Farm Equipment
Ltd. of Seaforth' donates a
trophy to the top member.in
the Huron 4-1-1 agricultural
machinery club. This year's
winner was Patricia Rose
Martin. '
The • Huron County
"Federation of Agriculture
Award .is. donated by the
Huron County Federation of
Agriculture to the top novice
agricultural machinery club
member. This year's winner is
Brian Regele.
Signal -Star Publishing of
Goderich sponsors the 4-H
' press reporter competition.
The first place press reporter
book was submitted by
Suzanne Coleman of the
Huron Sheep Club. •She
- received -S1-5 from Signal -Star
Publishing. Second prize, $10,
was awarded to David Vanden
Hoven of the Chinchilla Club
and the third place winner was
Michelle Dewit. a member of
the Sheepish Knitters Club
and she received S5.
'The Vincent Farm
Equipment Trophy goes to the
club that had the top
educational -display at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. The
winning display in 1998 was
entered by the Seaforth I club.
The Canadian Imperial
Bank of Commerce, both
Brussels and Seaforth
branches, donates an award
for the top judge at the Huron
County 4-H judging
competition. This year's
winner was Carol Rodges.
Hill & Hill Farms Ltd.
donates an award for the top
senior judge at this year's
judging competition. This
year's winner was Laurie
Rodges.
The Hill & Hill Farms Ltd.
Award is presented to the high
junior judge at the county
judging competition. This
year's winner is Sarah
Broadfoot.
The Watson Home
Hardware team judging
competition award is
presented tothe top team in
the county judging
competition held in august.
Members of the winning team
were Brett Bean, Laurie
Rodges, Carol Rodges and
Becky Rodges.
The Cargill Limited Award
for the high intermediate
judge at the county judging
competition was presented to
Carol Rodges.
The .Hensall District
Cooperative, both Seaforth
and Londesboro branches, -
donates an award to the top
novice judge at.the county
judging competition held in
Seaforth in- August. This
year's winner was Derek Van
Dieten.
Cargill Limited presents a
watch to each member of the
winning team at the Huron
County "Go For the Gold"
competition. This year's
winning team were. members
of the Huron Sheep Club..
They are James McNaughton,
Derek Maloney. Robyn
Etherington and Laurie
Rodges.
The Toronto -Dominion.
Bank Award is presented to
the champion sweepstakes
showman at the Seaforth - Fall
Fair and is donated by the
Seaforth Branch of the
Toronto Dominion Bank. This
year's winner was Corey
Rintoul.
The Hensall District Co-op
donates an award to the club
exhibiting .the top exhibit of
winter wheat at the Seaforth •
Fall Fair. This year that award
.was won bySeaforth I. The Stan Jackson Awards
came .to be because the late
Stan:Jackson was a noted
Herford breeder from Kippen
and he left a substantial
amount of.money in a trust
fund for the Huron County 4-
H beef clubs participating in
'the Seaforth Junior Fair. Each
year the interest from this
fund is used for prize money
and the .fSn'owing were
recipients: Corey Rintoul who
-exhibited the grand champion
beef steer at the Seaforth Fall
Fair who received a watch and
$100; Dennis Gower who
exhibited the reserve
champion beef steer at the
Seaforth Fall Fair. who
received $75; Sandra Alton
who exhibited the third place
steer. who received $50;
Becky Archawbault received
$25 for her fourth place steer.
Brent Black exhibited the
champion heifer at the
Seaforth Fall Fair and he
received a watch and $100;
The reserve champion heifer
was exhibited by Cole Vincent
who received $75;. Blake
Alton received $50 for his
third place. heifer which he
exhibited at the Seaforth Fall
Fair; Josh -Bruton had the
•fourth place heifer and he
received $25; Brent Black
received $100 for his high
score of 925. points out of a
possible 1,000 in the Huron
County Beef Clubs. •
The Huron County Soil and
Crop Improvement Award is
donated to the top club exhibit
of first cut hay at the Seaforth
Pall Fair. The Swine Club
won the prize.
The Cook's Division of
Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd.
trophy is .donated by Cook's
to the club with the champion
white heap -exhibit at the'
Seaforth Fall Fair. The 1998
winner was the Sheep Clyb. '
The First Line Seeds Award
is donated by First Line Seeds
for the champion soybean at
the Seaforth Fall Fair. This
year's winner was .the
Seaforth I Club.
The 1998 winners for the
champion haylage at the
Seaforth Junior Fair was
presented to the Seaforth t
clubby Bill Coleman of
Kippen.
The Russell. T. Bolton
Memorial Trophy is donated
by the Bolton family in
memory of Russell Bolton of
Seaforth and was presented to
the Seaforth I club for the
champion _corn exhibit at the,
Seaforth Fall Fair. .
W.G. Thompson & Sons
Limited Trophy is donated by
W.G. Thompson & Sons Ltd.
of. Hensall for the top grain
exhibit at the Seaforth Junior
Fair. The presentation was
made to the Seaforth I club.
This year there yias a new
award donated by the 4-H
Leaders • Association
executive. The winners of the
4-H executive_ council
secretary's award were first.
