Not enough room in
Catholic schools
While public school board
across the province are
looking at closing schools,
including several in Huron
and Perth Counties, the
Huron -Perth District
Catholic School Board
doesn't have enough room.
for all its students.
Ontario's education
ministry announced Sept. 29
it is giving capital grants
totalling $1,087,699 over the
next three school years for
accommodation and pupil
placement to the area
separate school board.
White squirrel found
Harpurhey's most
noticeable new resident is a
white squirrel. that rivals
Exeter's well-known
emblem.
Alex Stephen. who lives
close to the Goviers across
the road, says you often sec a
black squirrel chasing it
around. and this new, bushy -
tailed squirrel can often he
seen these days hanging
around his bird feeder at
about 5 p.m. in th evenings.
Ambassador of fair
Sarah McLellan was
named Ambassador to the
Fair on Saturday night.

Damage is hcing done to
the wreaths at the cenotaph
in. Victoria Park and the
Legion would like it to stop.

Goderich Township
Reeve Brian Ferguson
resigned from Seaforth
Council Friday because his
family is moving to Goderich
Township this month.
School councils waiting
before taking action
Local elementary schools
are taking a "wait and sce"
approach to a school closure
decision currently before the
Avon -Maitland District
School Board.
"We're stuck between a
rock and a hard place," said
James Murray, chair of
Walton Public School's
school advisory council.

former local police services
board; chair was the sworn in
last Tuesday night.

award
Seaforth's Frank Sills with
one of the 127 heritage
community' recognition
honours awarded by the
province this year as part of
the annual Remembrance
Day dinner at Branch 156 of
the Royal Canadian Legion.

Arena liquor licence faces
objections
Town council and the
local business improvement
faxed objections to the
liquor licence application by
the Scaforth and District
Community Centres last
Thursday. to the licensing
and registration department
of the Alcohol and Gaming
Commission of Ontario. just
prior to Saturday's official
deadline.
Board office moves in
Staff of the Avon Maitland
District School Board have
moved into their new offices
at Seaforth District High
School.
Renovations began this
summer at the high school to
the 7.000 square foot
basement and a 5,000 square
foot addition at the front of
the school to make room for
the combined offices of the
former Huron and Perth
boards.
Menary new councillor
Seaforth's newest
councillor is Paul Menary.
He was sworn in after
being appointed at the start
of last Tuesday night's
Scaforth Council meeting.

were named co -winners of
Seaforth's "Service to
Sports" award this year.
Joan Stewart was awarded
"Humanitarian Service."
Maureen Agar was
awarded for "Civic Service."
Residents oppose
snowmobiles on West
William Street
At (cast 38 tfitepayers on
West William Street don't
want a snowmobile route
down their road in Scaforth.
They signed a petition they
planned to present to council
at Town Hall last night.
