Paul Carroll, director of education for the Avon Maitland District School Board, said in an interview Monday that due to shortages in the provincial government's new education funding model, the site review committee had decided to call off their earlier recommendation to convert the current SDHS into the new board office. Separate School board in top five list, treasurer wary of funding figures According to provincial government figures, the Huron -Perth Catholic District School Board is one of the top five "winners" of all Ontario school boards in the new funding model it recently released. Those government figures show an 8.4 per cent increase to $27,070,255 in operating revenue for the area separate school board this fiscal year. April 15, 1998 Coun. Ball resigns Coun. John Ball submitted his resignation to Seaforth Council last Tuesday night. The Balls recently sold their house on John Street in town. As of April 26, Coun. Ball's resignation states, "I can no longer serve because I will no longer own property in town." St. Columban to repair its church The congregation decided to repair St. Columban Roman Catholic Church, which has been closed for seven months, at a packed meeting in the school gym in the near by hamlet last Thursday night. Estimated cost to repair this "first Catholic Church on the Huron Tract" is $398,860, significantly less than the • $696,615 first projected last fall. In a report that outlined strategies for dealing with the Avon Maitland District School Board's (AMDSB) headquarters question and school accommodation review, one of the approved recommendations was that there would be "no action taken on any school closure matters for the school year 1998-99." Work on Seaforth's water tower almost done. Seaforth's new water tower is 86 per rent finishel and it could he in use next month. While Ontario Provincial Police prepare for a new search of Lake Huron to find her body, Child Find is launching a new poster campaign for missing Mistie Murray or Goderich. April 29, 1998 Friends of high school urge action Organizers tried to fan the flames of their crusade to keep Seaforth District High School from closing at an open meeting billed "urgent" at Town Hall last Thursday night. Maureen Agar, Dick Burgess and Jane Powell, along with Charlie Smith and other "Friends of Seaforth District High School" who spoke at the front of the room, urged the 40 or so people in the audience to keep the faith --and the pressure on, by bombarding trustees with their points of view and filling letters to the editor columns, among other tactics. Carroll resigns from town committees The director of the Avon Maitland District School Board, Paul Carroll of Seaforth, has withdrawn from participation in tow of this town's committees- the business retention and expansion committee and the "Celebrate Scaforth's History" (museum) committee. Carroll gave notice of his decision to Seaforth's deputy clerk, Cathy Garrick, by fax on April 16.
