McLlwain
scoring in
Spengler
Seaforth's Dave McLlwain
scored one of Canada's goals
in its 5-4 shootout victory
over Slovnaft Vsetin of
Czechoslovakia at the
Spengler Cup in Davos,
Switzerland Monday.
He earned a pair of points
in Canada's 3-2 win over
Farjestads BK of the
Swedish Elite League in the
tournament opener Sunday,
assisting on both of the goals
scored by Dan Hodgson,
including the winner with
seven minutes left in the
game.
McLlwain scored 100
goals in the NHL with
various club's during a
decade-long career before
moving to the International
League, where he scored
many more. He has played
in Europe for the past two
seasons, and is now with
Bern in Switzerland's First
Division. So is former
Toronto 'Maple Leaf 'Dan
Marois, McLlwain's other
current linemate on Canada's
team, two time and
defending Spengler Cup
champs, now undefeated in
two starts.
The Spengler Cup is an
annual Christmas holiday
tournament that pits four top
European club teams against
a select team of Canadians.
The other teams in this
year's competition are HC
Davos and VEU Feldkirch.

willing to make this work,"
Scott said, before suggesting
council's vote should be
pushed ahead.
"I think we should set it in
place now before winter
goes away."
Seaforth Public Works
superintendent John Forrest
was not at last week's
meeting, but his written
report stated snowmobilers
had met with him since
council's last meeting and
he did not object to their
plans.
Reeve Lin Steffler moved
that council accept the route
as presented.
In brief discussion,
councillors stressed that "not
cutting corners is
important." '
Council agreed that for
snowmobilers who do not
live close' to the new trail,
the most direct route to it, or
out of town is what
enthusiasts should take.
Preliminary business data
indicates Seaforth's stability
BY GREGOR CAMPBELL
Expositor Staff
Preliminary analysis of
recently gathered data by
Seaforth's business retention
and expansion committee
indicates this area is a very
stable area for business, by
virtue of the number of years
some have been open here.
Thirty-three percent, or a
total of 22 of the businesses
analyzed, have been in
operation 36 years or more,
according to minutes of the
committee's Dec. 2 meeting.
Thirteen per cent (or nine
businesses) have been
around from 26 to 35 years,
3(1 per cent (20) for 11 to 25
years and 20 per cent (13)
for from four to 10 years.
Museum committee
begins cataloguing
Seaforth's museum
committee held its first
cataloguing bee at the start
of this month.
It was a learning session
and only nine items were
catalogued.
"This is a huge project that
will require volunteers to
come in on their own time to
catalogue items," Cathy
Garrick, the town's
economic development co-
ordinator told last Tuesday
night's Seaforth Council
meeting.
"We arc still looking for
people interested in helping
with this project. 1 am

Kyle Clark and Shaun

Only three of the former
champs missed the reunion -
Mike Betties and Kevin
Williamson because of a
death in the family, and
Andy Russell, formerly of
London, whose current
whereabouts couldn't be
determined.
Goalies Trevor Fortune,
Derek Cooper and Keith

champs' net in the first,
second and final periods,
respectively.
Scott Wood played the first
half of the game in net for
the current team, with
Charles Robertson going the
remainder of the way.
Art Varley and Mike Smale
were the referees.
Les Seiler and Don
McClure dropped the
ceremonial first puck.
Seiler's donation of $5,000
put the original Centenaires
on the ice a quarter-century
ago.
The reunion game was held
in conjunction with the
team's 25th anniversary
celebrations.
Those celebrations
continued until about 10:30
p.m. Sunday, after a pot luck
dinner for Cents' fans and
players, this season's and
past.
Originally the Exeter
Hawks were scheduled to
play the current Centenaires
a regularly scheduled game
Sunday night, but it has been
postponed until a later date.
In the Centenaires only
start last week they were
pounded 5-1 by the Morenz
