Atoms advance in annual Silver Stick
Seaforth's atom Is were exceedingly stingy last week.
They gave up a measly two goals in five games, and were
undefeated while waltzing to the championship at the annual
Wingham regional qualifier for the International Silver Stick
hockey tournament in Sarnia next month.
They blanked Exeter 2-0 on goals by Mike McLaughlin and
Jared O'Rourke in the championship final Sunday night, their
third -straight shutput, in two days.
Goalie Mau Devereaux recorded two of those, and puck -
stopping partner Jeff Wilbee notched the other.
Games were played at both Wingham and Belmore.
Seaforth advances to the Sarnia tournament finals from Jan.
15 to Jan. 17. The local atoms are coached by Jerry
McLaughlin.
Seaforth began the tournament with its only lopsided win
last Wednesday, an 8-1 lambasting of Walkerton. On
Saturday Seaforth edged Kincardine 2-1, tied Mitchell 0-0
and bumped Port Elgin 1-0 to advance to the qualifier final
against Exeter.
Further details are in this week's SCOREBOARD.
