Grade 11 students at
S.D.H.S. are finding out just
how tough parenting can be.
All students who are
enrolled in the 'Parenting'
class are required to look
after a baby doll for one day
and one night to see how it is
to be a parent. This baby is
computerized to cry when it
wants and if the student does
not take care of it right then.
it is recorded and the teacher
will know how you did on
tatting care of the baby.
Some students will have
the h.tby for one night and
others will take the
responsibility of having it for
the entire weekend.
Sarah Agar took the baby
home for one day and one
night. At first she thought it
was fun but when it came to
bed time. that all changed.
She didn't know when the
baby was going to cry but
she thought she had the times
all figured out. She waited
until 9:30 p.m. so she could
care for the baby but it didn't
cry until 10:30 p.m. She lost
an hour of sleep that night.
When the baby cries the
student parent must turn it
off by using a key. There are
three different settings for the
baby, easy, normal and
cranky.
Sarah was happy to get up
in the morning "and go to
school. knowing that it was
only a one -day experience.
Her family thought it.was a

great idea to have the
students take on that
responsibility to be a parent
for a day.
Mrs. Frketich. the teacher
of the class. said "many of
the kids are really tired when
they come in the next day."
The baby cost about $500,
but Frketich says it is worth
it. The students have really
taken on the job as well as
Frketich wanted. All students
who take it home must have
a consent form filled out by

Sarah did learn a lot of
responsibilities by doing this.
"You are the one with the
key so you have to be there
the whole time to care for the
baby, to feed and change it
when needed. You also have
to spend all of your. time to
be with it, not just when you
want to be there. It is a really
hard job to he a parent, even
if it is a computerized baby."
she said.

of British Columbia and
her fiancee Stuart
Anderson spent some time
in the village looking
around.
Kim took some pictures
of the -Dublin Hardware
store which was owned
years ago by her
grandfather. Tom Butters.
To her amazement his
name is still on the
concrete wall at the hack
entrance of the store which
now sells antiques. She
also got some pictures of
the Butter's family home.
While she was in the area
she also visited with her
uncle Jim and Jannekc
Murray and family and her.

also spent time with her
