Seaforth Manor
Retirement
Home
We were very busy doing
crafts, with Barb Shannon and
Kate Aslin on .Tuesday and
Thursdays. We made all
kinds of crafts for our bazaar,
which was a huge success.
Cheryl and Jenny Phillips,
Barb and 'Lindsey Shannon,
Katie Aslin and Viola
Lawson helped..
We are now in the process
of doing new renovations.
Feel free to come and check
out our new model suites.
We would like to welcome
Kate Aslin as she is
volunteering to do a Reading
Club every Wednesday. Also
Susan Flemming will be
doing baking club in the New
Year.
The Vanastra Christian
Reform Church Coffee Club
will be coming every other
Thursday at 2 p.m. for a sing -
a -long. We welcome them.
We would like to wish a
warm welcome to our new
residents: Luella Regele,
Elizabeth Foster, George
Longman and Marguerite
Stretton.
Happy Birthday to George
Wright, Jean Hildebrand,

Queensway's Family
Christmas Dinner was held
Dec. 6 and without a doubt
was t '-tv ghlight of the
week.. .
Bill Gibson and Joyce
Pepper provided music
throughout the traditional
Christmas dinner. Residents
were excited to play host to
family and friends who
joined them for the delicious
meal and entertainment. It is
gratifying to see such a great
turnout when staff and
volunteers make such an
effort to make it a success.
Residents of Queensway
enjoyed a musical week with
the Exeter Community
Choir, Christian Reform
Singers and Grand Cove
Choir providing programs of
song. Everyone is getting
into the Christmas spirit
with all the carolling.
There was excellent
attendance at worship
service Tuesday afternoon as
residents gathered to hear
the Christmas story.
Hilda Payne gave a
travelogue at Friendship
Friday about her recent trip
to the Agawa Canyon. She
gave many interesting
observations and humourous
anecdotes about the trip. She
also had pictures to show of
the highlights. Following
Hilda's presentation Gloria
Wilbee of Walton area sang
and accompanied herself on
the guitar. She sang a variety
of country and western
contemporary and gospel
songs with a few Christmas
carols for good measure.

Monument blessed
Recently, the local Knights
of Columbus, Father Stephen
Eckert Council and Blessed
Brother Andre Assembly
attended the blessing of the
monument outside St. James
Church. Both groups
contributed towards the
purchase of the memorial.
This memorial
commemorates all the
unborn children lost to
abortion. Father Dino
Salvador with Rev. Paul
Stephaniuk presided at the
ceremony after Mass.
Afterwards, a social :time of
coffee and cookies at St.
James was held.
The Thursday evening
euchre game at Dianna's was
a good time. Winners
included: Vera Ahrens,
Harvey Ahrens, John
Meagher, Adeline Mijcel,
Jerry Murray, Marj Smith
and Matt Claessens.
The season is upon us, and
our pastors remind us that
we are celebrating Advent, a
time of repentance and
preparation/anticipation for
Christmas.

Secondary reforms
Secondary reforms take
place as of September 1999.
The students who will first
notice the changes will be
those entering the Grade 9
classes that month.
Diploma requirements are
as follows. Students will be
required to have 18
compulsory courses, 12
optional credits, 40 hours of
community service across
four years, and successful
completion of the province -
wide Grade 10 literacy test.
The curriculum will be
designed as a four year
system, with emphasis on
language, math and science.
Full disclosure of all Grade
11 and 12 transcripts also
begins next September.
Students who repeat a
course to upgrade or to pass
after a. second attempt will
have, as part of their
transcript, a citation for each
attempt. Students will no
longer enter a " destrcamed"
Grade 9 class. Students in
Grades 9 and 10 will have
two choces: thcy may take
courses in applied or
academic studies. Some
subjects will be considered

start in September
"open" in optional areas of
study: These courses will
prepare students for their
Grade 10 studies in either
level. It should be noted that
a student who elects to take
an applied math in year one
is not prevented from
selecting an academic math
in year two.
Thc difference between the
two course levels is in
addressing how the student
learns. The students who
approach studies in applied
studies will study the
material, focused on the
practical application of the
materials studied. •
Those who select studies in
the academic arca will cover
core material with a focus on
theory and enriched
activities. There will also be
transfer courses available at
the Grade 10, 11 and 12 level
to prepare a student who
elects to change levels from
.one track to another.
