At SDHS we are lucky to have Mrs. Shannon Empson Students collection for Christmas grows as home rooms compete As the holiday season draws closer, we are reminded of the less fortunate in our area. The SDHS Students' Council has involved students in the true spirit of Christmas. The "Angel Tree Campaign" is a food/toy /clothing collection drive run by the Students' Council and the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Students are encouraged to bring in a non-perishable food items, new toys and clothing to be Bear paw distributed to needy families in the Huron County area. In addition to the drive, a competition has been created by the Students' Council among home rooms. The home room that brings in the most items will win a gourmet meal cooked by the Students' Council. The IOA home room is currently in the lead with 175 items; 1 -IC follows in second place with 107 items and in third place is 1OB with 54 items. There is also a competition among all schools in Huron County— and SDHS is currently winning this competition. Anyone who wishes to donate may bring their items to SDHS. We need new clothes, socks and underwear, toys as well as non-perishable food items. Empson enjoys her job as an interpreter, especially in the high school setting. She finds that it is really challenging. "I like the fact that I know that when I come to SDHS each day 1 know that it will be a whole new day. Different activities are happening around the school every day." Empson is well known around the school and has made a lot of new friends since she came to SDHS. Not only is she a good interpreter in sign language but she really knows how to talk to you face to face in a conversation. She really knows what words to use and when to use them.
