What that•, reully means
is less time with your children.
Don't be misled by the Ontario government. Spending
more time in the classroom doesn't mean that high
school teachers will be spending more time with each
student. In fact, it's the opposite.
The government says it only wants teachers to teach
"another twenty-five minutes a day." But assigning
a teacher a full additional class of students goes far
beyond that.
Adding another class will give each teacher an
extra 20, 30 or more students a day. That means that
teachers will have less time with each individual
student each day. Italso leaves little or no time for
teachers to supervise extra -curricular activities.
Teachers have suggested other ways they could spend
more time with each student and on each subject.
The government has said no. What they really want is
fewer teachers teaching more students.
All teachers want is the time to do
a good job educating your children.
Shouldn't the government make time for that?
A message from Ontario's public high school teachers
and educational workers.
