Tree of lights supporting pain pump
Hospital Auxiliary Christmas campaign aims for $4,000
BY SCOTT HILGENDORFF
Expositor Editor
Every light bulb sold for
this year's "Tree of Lights"
will shine on the Seaforth
Community Hospital
Auxiliary's efforts to
purchase a pain pump.
"The hospital needs one
and we felt that was
something the public can
relate to," said Shirley
Dinsmore, a co-chair of this
year's event.
It will be the fourth time
the auxiliary has sold bulbs
to light the blue spruce tree
in front of the hospital but
it's the first time the
auxiliary has selected a
specific need for which to
raise funds.
This is the largest fund
raiser • theauxiliary
organizes. This year's is the
biggest as the auxiliary tries
to raise more than they have
before with a purchase price
of more than $4,000 for the
pump.
Dinsmore said pain is
something everyone can
understand and the auxiliary
hopes the community will
continue to support the event
as strongly as it has in other
years.
The pump allows patients
to control their own pain
medications and is portable
so the patient can move
around and have access to
the medication whenever
needed.
The idea for the event
came for a guest speaker at
an auxiliary conference. A
Kitchener hospital was
holding an event and
members of the Seaforth
auxiliary went to see how it
worked.
The idea was well -liked
and in the first year saw
more than 500 lights on the
Seaforth tree.
Lights are purchased as a
gift for someone or as a
memorial. Those buying
lights have their names
placed on a bristol board tree
in the hospital's main hall.
It's an event that gets the
entire hospital and
community working
together.
"It's a hospital -wide
project," said Dinsmore.
Staff, hospital board
members and student
volunteers help sell the bulbs

community event at the
