When completed, SDHS will he the new corporate headquarters for the Avon Maitland District School Board. Contractors were not avail- able for comment but Head Custodian, Bill Price provided a tour of the work being done. Behind the school, on the east side, there are six new windows and a large, double door installed in what used to he the basement wall. This will he the new entrance for the board office staff. Price expects that thc base- ment arca will he completed by Oct. 31 for staff from the Stratford offices to move in. "They have to be out of their Stratford offices by then," said Price. The new offices will house payroll, financing and most other departments of the Avon Maitland District School Board. Eventually, both staff frorn Stratford (the former Perth County school hoard headquarters) and Clinton (the former Huron County hoard in Seaforth when all the con- struction is complete. "1 think it is going to look super," said Price. He said the front of the school should be finished by January 31, 1999. This area will have the main offices for the superintendents and the director. It will also contain the new library for the stu- dents. The school hoard has hired many local husinesses to work on the project including Smith Construction, Turner Plumbing, Pfaff Electric, Smith Peat Roofing and Buildforce. Honours: Danielle Vanden Hengel and Jessica Bakos (St. Marys). 4-11 Sheep Club On September 27 the last sleeting oI' the Huron Sheep Club was held at Florence Pullen's. When we first arrived we wrote two tests. Then we went outside and got four sheep ready for show. We were put into groups and each group had to triin their lamb's feel, wash the lamb and get it ready for show. Then we had a practise show. After the practise show we played (lags and ate sup- per. New look at cemetery Thcrc is a new look at the St. Columhan Cemetery thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor of trees for the cemetery. Ray Maloney. the caretaker, has spent much time clearing along the fence bottom on ,the north side of the cemetery.He has dug the holes and planted and watered approximately 40 cedar trees. Hopefully, Mother Nature will soon take over the watering job. Our community is deeply grateful to the donor of the trees. There will be a Community Builder Project happening in St. Columhan on Sunday evenings in November. Jeff Murray, who attends St. Michael High School, is co- ordinating this project as his community service. These evenings will be on Nov. 1, 8. S� Columban 345- 560 15, 22 and 29 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. in - the St. Columhan School gym. Thcrc will be games of bas- ketball and/or volleyball. Thanksgiving Day is usual- ly a time of family, fun and food. May each of us take some time from our busy schedules to reflect upon the good things in our lives. Many blessings to all of you. Each Tuesday, the team of workers meets to discuss pro- ject progress. Despite working in a busy school with staff and students, Price said construction work- ers are able to work around any student interruption. The construction workers have been friendly to all the students and staff through the whole situation.
