Seaforth Council reversed
lite decision it reached earlier
this month. and decided to
participate in Heritage
Canada's "Street Smart"
town regeneration program at
its Sept. 22 meeting.
Marlen Vincent and Irwin
Johnston of Seaforth's busi-
ness retention and expansion
committee (BREE►spoke as a
delegation at the start of the
meeting, and said the com-
mittee was willing to assume
responsibility for it.
They said it could go hand-
in-hand with the committee's
ongoing survey.
"L have no problem with it
if we're getting value for our
money," Coun. Lin Steffler
said. At council's previous
meeting she voted against the •
program. commenting she
would feel more comfortable
with it if groups or individu-
als in the community were
pushing for it. rather than

Vincent told council he is
confident "Street Smarts" can
he applied beyond Main
Street, and the BREE com-
mittee sees itself as "another
voice of town council,"
working with other groups,
such as the business improve-
ment area and local architec-
tural conservation advisory
committee.
He said the business reten-
tion and expansion commit-
tee may evolve into "some-
thing like a chamber of com-
merce."
