`Smooth talker'
bilks woman
A "smooth -talking" man
bilked a 75 -year-old East
Wawanosh Township lady of
S1430 in $20, $50 and $ 100
bills on Sept. 21, Ontario
Provincial Police say.
He came to her residence
"asking about tools that had
been for sale at the house ear-
lier in the summer," accord-
ing to the police report. "The
man brought up (the topic of)
vehicles and she took him to
the garage to show a 1975
Dodge Charger."
While in the garage the
man's vehicle horn honked
several times, then he told the
her his cellular phone was
ringing and he had to leave.
"A short time later the lady
found that someone had
entered the house, gone into
her bedroom, and stolen
money from her purse," the
report states.
Police describe him as
clean shaven, of medium
height and build, with thick
dark hair on the busy side. He
left the location in a light
blue, two-tone pick-up truck.

St. James of Seaforth swept
to both boys and girls crowns
in Huron -Perth elementary
pairs team golf at Mitchell
last week.
The two players on each
team took turns hitting the
ball.
Brad Henderson, 11, and
Chris Longstaff, 13, of St.
James carded a 44 on the par
35 front nine of the course to
win the boys event by one
stroke. About 40 pairs were
entered.
Mary Finlayson and Nicole
Kistner of St. James teamed
up to win the girls event.
Kyle Verberne, 13, of St.
Columban School fired a
hole -in -one, he'll have diffi-
culty repeating. He used a
three wood off the tee on the
sixth hole. The ball hit a tree
and bounced into the cup.
There was another hole -in -
one at the event but it didn't
count. It went into the hole in
one shot, but on the wrong
green.
THE HURON EXPOSITOR, OCTOBER 7, ISli-!
ON THE MARK - Chris
Longstaff (above, lett) and
Brad Henderson of St.
James School in Seaforth
were the top team in last
week's Huron -Perth
Catholic elementary
schools golf tournament at
Mitchell. Not to be outdone,
St. James had the top girls
team too (on the right),
made up of Nicole Kistner
(left) and Mary Finlayson.
