BY GREGOR CAMPBELL

Bunnies on ice are in short
supply and rough shape,
almost extinct around here
this fall.
So the local ringette associ-
ation is offering free registra-
tion for girls, seven years old
or younger, to see if it can get
its youngest division hop-
ping.
Only one young lady signed
up for the bunnies when the
Seaforth and District Ringette
Association held registration
earlier this month.
That's not enough to make
a team.
Congrats to
Doug Vock on
his new job as
C.B.O. of Perth
West (Milverton)
Last season was tough too.
Only five bunnies registered;
too few to have a regular
team in a league, but enough
that they could skate together
to learn the basics of the
once -popular winter sport.
They also had the odd exhibi-
tion game.
Association president
Marian Durst hopes that by
offering free registration
now, some younger players
might emerge from the
woodwork. Practices are slot-
ted for Wednesday's at 4:30
p.m. at the arena, with games
on the weekend.

oodles of girls registered at
the bunny level.
Today the sport appears in
decline in Seaforth, with elite
Huron -Perth ringette teams
and ever -rapidly emerging
women's hockey taking up
the slack.
Durst says overall, Seaforth
ringette registration is down
about 20 girls so far this sea-
son, with somewhere
between 50 and 60 signed up.
Last season there were
between 70tand 80.
You can't blame the growth
of women's hockey, at least
in the bunny division, Durst
says. Girls seven and under
are too young to chase pucks.

SIGN OF TIMES
Durst thinks the dearth of
younger players is "a sign of
the times," with more harried
parents today "not spending
the time and effort" to send
or take their kids to the arena.
The local ringette associa-
tion is definitely icing teams
in Live divisions this season -
at novice, petite, tween,
junior and belle C levels.
Bunnies and belle A are up in
the air.
Last year Seaforth had a
great belle A team coached
