Born in Earlton, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late John Rattan McLean and Janet Young of Diamond Township, New Liskeard. Jessie's community service and achievements were many. She was an active member and volunteer of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Beamsville in which she served as a member of the DestaWoods, a member and past Chairman of the Board of Directors and Church Elder. She volunteered at the Beamsville Senior Centre and at Albright Manor in which she served as member of the Board on the Women's Auxiliary. As well she was in charge of the operation oI the Tuck Shop for many years Jessie devoted and dedicated many hours to crafts for her volunteer activities For her many years of outstanding community involvement Jessie received a Certificate of Merit "Celebration 88" from the Government of Canada and the 1997 Volunteer Service Award from the Town of Lincoln. Jessie was an inspiration to many Wife of James Ross Sproat who predeceased her in 1973. Surviving are six children, James and his wife Margaret of Oakville. At Hensall United Church Rev. Pam Tolmay's sermon was "Named and Unknown". Mark Garlough was the organist for the ministry of 'song. Anne Marie McGregor was the greeter. The ushers were Doug Cook -and John Thomson. Anyone needing pastoral care can reach Rev. ,Pani at 519-291-5241. Anyone wishing a friendly visit when ill or shut-in or bereaved call Rev. Pam or Kathy Mann at 263-2343. The Hensall and District Horticultural Society held its Flower Show at Queensway on August 19. Despite the dry weather there were 15 exhibitors entered in the show. Exhibitors ranged in agc from three to 83, showing that gardening is a hobby for all ages. Tomatoes, beets. potatoes green peppers and squash were exhibited as well as flowers, and many animals and figures of people were fashioned from vegetables and fruit. Marge Phillips was the judge for the show. Sixteen residents ol- Queensway enjoyed viewing the flowers. Marg Cole and Doris Jantzi were in charge of the tea room with assistance from Carol Gascho and Ted Underwood. Green pick up continues in the Village of Hensall. Each Monday. grass clippings, trimmings. branches, garden waste. etc. is picked up. Green waste must he in cardboard boxes, or containers which can he dumped - no hags will he collected. Branches and trimmings must he bundled. and no longer than four feet in length. This also applies to stalks. Bundles collected is limited to five; maximum weight is forty-five pounds each. Green pickup should he to the curb 7 a.m. to ensure pick-up.
