Twenty-three of this total

the Seaforth Optimist Club.
There was a little party of
appreciation for the Red
Cross, which has been
collecting blood in town for
from 15 to 20 years. after the
final Seaforth clinics.
Thursday afternoon and
evening.
Red Cross is being
disbanded Oct. 1. as a result
of what has hccomc known
as the national "tainted -blood
scandal". and it is being
immediately replaced by
Canadian Blood Services.

"There is always a blood

"Hospitals' need for blood is

McNichol says the newly
re-formed Seaforth Optimist
Club assumed organizational
responsibilities for the
Seaforth clinics. under
whatever name the national
blood collection agency is
called.
The local people are all
volunteers. and the clinics
are also supported with cash
and donations from local
businesses.
He said the Red Cross has
averaged between 150 and
200 units annually in town.

McNichol said this was
prbbahly because the
afternoon session was a new
wrinkle. making for less of a
rush in the evening.
"The lineups weren't as
big." he says.
More than 35 units of blood
were collected in the hour -
and -a -half session Thursday
afternoon which McNichol
terms "very busy".
