Graduation is about memories and a step on the path toward dreams
From previous page
worth the wait, hasn't it? We learned lots and
planned lots and took pan in many fun events.
Ah. yes, the Grade Eight trip! The trip where
we rode the motor coach for several hours so
that we could see those magnificent "6 pack"
stomachs colored in Blue Jay blue up on the
giant Jumbotron of Sky Dome. Selling all that
stuff was worth it, wasn't it girls! We all have
lots of memories of fun with Mrs. Cooper and
Mr. Payne.
Graduation is about memories and also
about thanks. Thanks to the many teachers.
many of whom l have already mentioned, for
all the many lessons in life this far and the
man wonderful memories.
Thanks also to all of our moms and dads
taint in my case, also Rose -Anne) who have
always been there for us in signing those
hundreds of permission sheets. lending us
moolah and moral support and for all those
things for which they never ever get thanked -
like homework and help with all of those little
steps along life's path. •
1 also want to say "Thanks a lot" to my
classmates, the Class of '98, for the support
and reward of choosing me to be your
valedictorian. This is a special honour which 1
will always treasure.
And who will ever, ever forget "Mom" away
from home, Mrs. June Cooper. She was there
for us if we needed help or needed a bandage
for a cut. She called home when we weren't
feeling well. she talked to us when we were
upset and she gave us hugs when we needed
one. She gave us encouragement when it was
needed and she even gave us hotdogs!June
Cooper was the glue that held us all together.
Graduation is also about dreams of things
yet to come. the dreams that may one day see
Kate become "cool Teacher Kate" and
Hammy become a Gr. 2 School -Mammy. and
Meaghan become "Ms. Motivational".
Graduation is about the dreams that may see
Ken and Derek speeding down the ice. not the
school parking lot. on ice which has been
made super fast by Bill, only to he stopped by
Constable Crystal. Graduation is about the
dreams that may see Mike. Denise, Justin and
Melissa become famous selling hot dogs at
WWF bouts featuring Killer Kyle and
Powerful Paul. Graduation is about the dreams
-that may see Nicole and Pam K. trading
clothes that they' have designed and so on, for
each of us has our own dreams.
Graduation is about the steps along the path
of our dreams that each of us has taken so far.
The dreams of the Class of '98. all of which 1
wish 1 had time to mention. are great! Our
dreams will reach far and wide. Whatever
those many dreams may he, 1 am sure that we,
the class of '98, will continue to make our
mark. just as we have each made our mark
along the path so far.
It is my wish that the wind will be ever at
our hack and that the humps in your path
might he small.
Thank you.

Friendships won't

By Marion Visser
Valedictorian
I am very proud and honored to he the
valedictorian of the St. Columban class of '98.
I have spent my whole elementary career in
the St. Patrick's and St. Columban school
community, and I have gained a wealth of
knowledge that will last me a lifetime.
Now that my nine years of elementary'
schooling is about to end 1 look back on those
years that f have spent with my peers that are
present here today. Most of us have been
together the whole journey, from kindergarten
to grade eight. and I'm sure we can still
remember when the school day was filled with

time.
As we moved along into reading, writing
and math we took the leap to St. Patrick's
School. Dublin. In 1995 we returned to St.
Columban, with the addition of three new
classrooms and a gym.
Over the years we have become friends with
each other and many of our friendships won't
end after tonight. Some of us will remain
friends throughout our adulthood, friendships
that started here at St. Columban School.
This past year was especially memorable.
We were the leaders of the school and as we
tried to live up to that title Ms. Barsanti-Innis,

Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Wacher. Mr. Reilly and all
the other teachers in our school community
were always there to keep us on the right track.
My experience at St. Columban School has
been unbelievable. Growing up in a rural
school with it's main focus on Catholic
education has made me into a young Christian
adult. From kindergarten the teachers in our
school community have worked hard to set us
on the right path to make us active members of
our Catholic community. Time after time the
teachers encouraged us to follow the gold rule
"do unto others as you would have them do
unto you." They have taught us how to follow
Jesus in our lives.

As our teachers urged us to perforin our
hest. he responsible and he ourselves, they
taught us some very valuable lessons about
life. They made us strive for our grades. They
were also the peace keepers when
disagreements came between us. They have
given us our education, one of the greatest
gifts they could possible give us. This gift that
will never break down or wear out, we will
rely on it throughout our lives. This gift often
goes unnoticed. On behalf of the grade eight
graduation class 1 would like to thank all the
teachers and staff for the gift of our education.
thanks.
