Southpaw and Reds' rookie
Steve Leonhardt took the
Ions. despite pitching well to
the end. He got the side in
order in the top of thc sev-
enth.
Gordon was no less steady
for the Orioles. and also went
the distance.•
His team made three errors.
The Reds officially .mis-
played two.
- The Orioles left five run-
ners stranded.
NICE STABS
Seaforth led 1-U after the
first inning. 4-3 after the sec-
ond. and the two teams were
tied 5 -all as shadows length-
ened atter the fifth.
•Seatorth second -baseman
Jason Murray made a nice-
stab
icestab of a hlooping Texas lea-
guer behind shortstop to
make short work of what .
looked like could become a
big inning for the Orioles in
the top of the fifth. holding
therm to one run.
Phillips also had his• work"
cut out :tor him on the hot -
corner. snaring one scream-
ing line drive early in the
•game. and knocking down
another howitzer later. hold-
ing the hitter to a single.

The loss knocked the Reds
down to .500. leaving them
with a 3-3 won -loss record
early in this their second sea-
son. They host the defending
league champion Brussels
Tigers tonight at 7:30 p.m.,
also at Lions Park.
Last year was the horn -
again Reds' first hack in the
Huron league, after they fold-
ed for a couple of campaigns.
They were formerly called
the Bears, and two decades
ago were the old Texaco
team. •
As the Bears, they were the
Huron County Fasthall
League's playoff champions
in 1992-93.
Back in action last year as
the Reds they finished with a
S 8 record and were put out
in the first round of the play-
offs by the .Exeter Braves.

now out of town in Toronto.
Newcomers include: pitch-
er/catcher Leonhardt, from
Seatorth. who has not played
in three years; outfielder
Derek Macdonald; outfielder
Dave Akey from town, who
had not played tastball'in a
decade; and pitcher Jim Roth
from Hensall, who played
with the Bears before but had
been up north for two years.

The rest of the roster basi-
cally remains the same: Price;
Murray. Philips. -Chris Annis.
Darren Akey, Dylan Wick,
Tcrry Morey, Chris Reeves
and Pat Nigh.
The Reds were supposed to
play twice last week. once on
the road at Lieury, but that
game got "winded out"
because of the heavy winds
all around the arca on
Tuesday night. -
Manager Price says his
squad is hitting "better" so
far this season compared to
last, and the team's pitching
is "about the same."
He guesses tonight's oppo-
nent. the Tigers. as defending
champions are the team to
beat. but figures thc Reds
have as good a chance as any
if they're cooking come the
playoffs.
