Chaput aces the third hole
The number of senior
golfers is rising along with
their age. More and more
seniors are playing golf.
Some have been chasing that
little white hall for years hut
many are new to the game. It
doesn't seem to matter
whether thc senior golfers arc
beginners or "old hands" at
thc game, they have many
things in common when it
comes to golf.
As our senior population
rises. the numbers of seniors
participating in everything
from howling'to drama clubs,
is increasing. In golf seniors
have found a healthful, stim-
ulating pastime that com-
bines physical activity. the
outdoors. competition. social-
izing and fun.
Regardless of your compet-
itiveness any game or sport is
more enjoyable when you
pldy it with a degree of skill.
There are many ways to
increase your skill level in
golf despite your age.
Good physical conditioning
is important to good golf.
Many people don't perceive
golf as a physically strenuous
activity. This is true enough
and thus it makes golf ideal
for those whose days on the
tennis courts and soccer
fields are over. However, the
better the shape you're in. the
Netter you'll play golf.
Walking is a "hest exercise".
Walking strengthens the legs,
helps the cardiovascular sys-
tem. and improves circula-
tion. -Seniors should walk as
much as possible on and off
the golf course. Unless 'the-
golf
thegolf course is extremely hilly
or the weather is oppressively
hot and humid. seniors will
benefit by walking the
course. If You must take a
power cart because of per-
sonal health or the rules of
the course, then walk as
much as possible...perhaps
taking turns with your partner
walking one hole and riding
the next.
Before golf warm-up exer- -
Cises are important especially'
for seniors. Swinging a
weighted cltih, doing some
torso twists. arm swings, and
stretches before teeing it up.
is at least a start. Take some
time to warm up on the prac-
tice arca.
Nom.
Mark Chaput scored a hole -
in -one on the third hole on
Saturday using a seven iron.
This was the first hole -in -one
of the season.
Congratulations 'Mark. Many
of thc matches are underway
and the first round is to be
completed by June 2. On
June 10 we will update the
status of thc matches of all
involved.
