Sarah LeBeau, of RR#1 Brucefield, is charged with four counts of impaired driving causing death, one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm, four counts of criminal negligence causing death, one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm and one charge related to drinking -and - driving. The charges stem from an accident on Nov. 24, 1996 in Stanley Township. During general divison assignment court on May 22, the LeBeau case was scheduled to return to court on July 3 for pre-trial proceedings and on Sept. 7 for trial. During pre-trial proceedings, the defense lawyer, the Crown and a judge discuss whether the case can be resolved with a guilty plea or whether it will continue to a trial stage. If the accused person opts for a trial, the lawyers narrow the issues on which the trial will proceed. The judge at the pre-trial proceeding will not hear any resulting trial. Another Sunday visitor, with a wide mustache and a big, black Stetson, seems to enjoy basking in the nostalgic sights and smells of old, wind-up gramaphoncs, century old bureaus and sideboards and cast iron toys and tools from another century. It's hockey's 1960s funnyman, Eddie Shack. Few sports figures are as easily recognized or arc as congenial and polite as this former New York Ranger and Toronto Maple Leaf winger. And there were others: like Christine Bentley and Keith Morrison of CFTO news; movie stars like Darryl Hanna (one time boyfriend of John F. Kennedy Jr.) and Leslie Neilson (who collects hippos) and hockey players Doug Gilmore and the great Maurice Richard. And last year, a farmer from around Walton came by and said, "Aren't' you•Arnold Westcott's young lad from Seaforth''" He said, "Your dad used to repair my Waltham pocket watch and when I got married, we bought he rings from him. My dad paid your father for the diamond and the wedding ring by delivering a crock of butter to the jewellery store every other Saturday for a year." His comments brought back memories of the bartering in he 1930s that went on at Christmas between dad and cash - short farmers exchanging jewellery and other things in the store for a side of beef, eggs and plucked chickens. And sometimes gallons of maple syrup. However, the most interesting thing for me in the antique mall was not the artifacts. It is a fascinating young man who repairs old vacuum tube radios and tape machines. He sits silently at a work bench with one of the largest vendors who deals in radios and record players from the 1902s to the 1950s. There is little in this line he cannot take apart, fix and put back together. He is a remarkable fellow. His seeing -eye dog sits close by, for he is blind and has been all his life. Sunday at the antique market is truly an experience, even for a judge. Receiving 25 -year pins are Detective Constable Samuel Lazarevich. Six months ago we moved in to Seaforth Manor and have been enjoying our life here ever since." The Feeney's have been married for 51 years and know alot about enjoying life. Most of their family lives close by and they enjoy these visits very much. When asked why they chose Seaforth Manor to live Ferg replied " Failing health and the closeness to medical care were a couple of reasons, plus our family thought it was a good idea too. The doctor comes any time of the day or night, blood tests are done right here in our rooms and the nursing staff are caring people. "We also have church services here every week and Father Dino comes once a month for a visit. "There is a piano in the lounge which Teresa enjoys playing. Everyone loves to hear her play, I do too." Teresa finds the Manor very enjoyable, she says "The food is very good and the kitchen staff are helpful. There is also lots of entertainment and it is your choice whether you participate. There are barbeques, crafts, baking and of course the best part of the baking is taste testing! The whole staff here is friendly, helpful and fun, they just could- n't be any better."
