Kids amazed by `Kane'
The week at Walton Public
School began with Kyle
Griffith's uncle, Officer Allan
Dickson and his dog. Kane,
from the Kitchener/Waterloo
Canine Unit, giving demon-
strations on what his dog can,
do. Kanc is from the Czech
Republic and has been with
the officer for 3 years now.
They both had to go into
training together for 15
weeks. The kids were amazed
as the dog would sniff out
and find certain objects that
the officer would throw out
into the field. With the dog
on his leash Officer Dickson
showed how the dog was
trained to attack on com-
mand. After the demonstra-
tions the officer answered all
of the kids' questions.
Then it was time for "Kids
on the Block" puppet show.
The program is sponsored by

Community Child Abuse
Coordinating Committee, and
fully sponsored by the
Boards of Education and the
Children's Aid Society of
Huron County. The program
is intended to provide chil-
dren with the information
they need to help keep them
safe. It provides a non-thrcat-
ening approach to the issue of
child abuse and provides very
positive, supportive messages
to children.

Residents plant garden
Queensway residents had a
great time Friday morning
planting a vegetable garden
in special wheelchair level
planters. We hope to harvest
tomatoes, radishes, lettuce
and green onions.
Discussion took place about
the difference between store
bought tomatoes and real,
homegrown tomatoes as well
as fresh green onions added
to salads. Residents are look-
ing forward to providing
daily attention to our garden.

Thursday found us trying
out our new breadmaker. A
few of the ladies could not
believe how things have
changed and it didn't surprise
them when our first attempt
turned out a little heavy. But,
we will persevere and hope-
fully our next loaf will be
more edible.
