charged
for area
break
and enters
A man was arrested and
charged with numerous
offences after Ontario
Provincial Police executed a
search warrant at his John
Street residence in Seaforth
Thursday.
The 26 -year-old has been
charged with three counts of
possession- - of--stolen---
property; four counts of
break, enter and theft; and
one count of possession of a
controlled substance
(marijuana).
"Officers investigating an
attempted break-in nearby
noted property visible
outside the residence which
was believed to have been
stolen previously in a break
and enter at Sills Home
Hardware," the OPP press
release states.
"During the execution of
this warrant, officers also
recovered several items
which had been reported
stolen over the May long
weekend in two break and
enters on Main Street, and
another on High Street.
"In total approximately
'$2,850 in stolen property
was recovered and has been
identified by its respective
owners," the press release
continues.
"In addition a small
quantity of marijuapa,was
located at the residence."
"Further investigation has
traced stolen goods from the
break-ins to a pawnshop in
the Stratford area. A further
charge of possession of
stolen property is pending."
The man was released,
with conditions, before a
Justice and is scheduled to
answer charges in cotirt on
June 15.

Cardiio leads area crisis program
Seaforth
woman named
co-ordinator
of new program

A Seaforth woman is the
co-ordinator of a new crisis
intervention program here,
and throughout the area.
Penny Cardno lives on
Main Street North and has a
background in nursing'.
The Huron Perth crisis
intervention program which
she co-ordinates began at thc
start of, March, but had an
open house at Stratford
General Hospital for its
official opening on May 8.
Cardno says the, program
provides 24-hour, seven-day
a -week, short-term
intervention and support.
"No person is turned away,"
she stresses. "The person's
well being
is what's
most
important."
"Nobody
is left
hanging."
If need
be. ,callers

with the
individual
or agency
that can best
help them address the
problem(s) that led to their
particular crisis.
Suicide. overdoses and
abuse, spousal or otherwise.

program has been dealing

It received 156 calls in each
of thc past two months.
There are four part-time
employees and four full-time.
as well as thc co-ordinator,
working for the program at
various places at different
times in thc two counties. all
linked to each other in an

The aim is to avoid busy
signals from would-be callers
in crisis.
WIDE EXPERTISE
These employees have a
broad range of expertise, for
example. in nursing, social
work. mental illness,
addictions and women's
issues. In addition. this staff
can link callers and their
problems up with the even
wider range of of specialists
and agencies that exist in
Huron and Perth.
Assessment can be done by
the crisis intervention centre
in the emergency departments
of any of the eight hospitals
within the two c,hunties,
including Seaforth's.
Cardno says this allows
people in crisis to be seen in
the privacy of their own
communities.
The co-ordinator says the
program's mandate from the
provincial health ministry is
to work with the seriously
mentally ill, but it also

Canadian Food Grains Bank.
Seven churches, the
Knights of Columbus and
Seaforth Council have
partnered with other
community members in the
project in its fifth year.

and community, gather twice
a year to plant and later,
harvest the crop which will
be distributed to a country in
need.
The project is led by the
Canadian ood Grains Bank
in Winnipeg but started
locally when a representative
from the Egmondville United
Church learned about the
project and proposed a

Rwanda and North Korea.

involved in the project
through thc Knights of
Columbus but the groups
membership includes the
Egmondville United Church,
North Side United Church,
First Presbyterian United
Church, Bethel Bible Church,
St. James Roman Catholic
Church, St. Thomas Anglican
Church and the St. Columban
Roman Catholic Church.
