Senior games
Senior games begin - Senior game action was well under
way last week as teams and individuals began competing
for top spots in the district competition. Above, Roger
Boughtflower was one of four competing in the darts
division at the Legion on Saturday afternoon. Right, Ken
Preszcator squares off against Gwen Harbum in a round of
solo action. Games continue this week.

Craft classes make successful penny sale
The hard work of craft
classes and the many
generous donations made for
a very successful penny sale
at Maplewood Manor.
Grace Broadfoot, Pearl
Campbell, Frances Melady,
Viola Lawson and Tracy
Nash did a great job
modelling the fashions when
a London company visited.
Residents have been getting
lots of nractice at crokinole in
Map1ewood'
Manor
Peggy Perkins, Barbara Scott,
Valma Preszcator and Beth
Pryce have been great
instructors.
Visits from Elly Van
Bergen, Rev. Vandermey,
Rohert Hullev and Rev.
greatly appreciated. the fine spring weather and
Randy the Entertainer was a
popular hit with residents of
Maplewood. His ventriloquist
and karaoke act brought back
a lot of memories of the Ed
Sullivan Show and songs of
the past.
Marion Rose came to play
the piano for a good, old-
fashioned sing -along.
Tapping toes and dancing
galore was the result of the
took a drive to Bayfield
where they admired the many
spring flowers and of course
the deep blue color of the
lake. Spring must be here ---
ice cream cones were the
treat of the day.

Zurich connection band plays at spring fling
The sun is shining along with the nice
warm air, it must be May. Flowers are
blooming and residents at our retirement
home are enjoying nice walks outside.
On March 31st, there was a fashion
show in the afternoon. Viola Lawson,
Agnes McClinchey, Antje Veldhuis,
Jody Brown and Cindy DeGroof
modelled clothing.
It was Agnes McClinchey's birthday
that day and she was presented with a
beautiful pin.
On April 12th, we held our Easter Tea
and Open House. We invited residents'
families and friends. It was a beautiful
sunny day, a perfect day for our Easter
Tea. Henrietta Brown's daughter, Carol
Carter, played some music on the piano,
which was enjoyed by all.
Kay MacDonald enjoyed visits from
her family. We had hot cross buns and a
cake with refreshments. Thank you to
everyone for joining us for our tea.
We held our Spring Fling dance on
April 16th. The Zurich Connection
Band played many varieties of songs
and dances for us.
Myrtle Read and Viola Lawson
danced a heel and toe polka. Dave Sim
was dancing to the music. What a
dancer! We all enjoyed squares and
punch. We would like to thank the
Zurich Connection Band for playing
such great music.
Happy Birthday this month to Mac
Rock, May 14; Mary Church, May 14;
Isabel Murray, May 16; and Laura
Balkwill, May 30. Happy Anniversary
to Ferg and Teresa Feeney on May 10.
Manor Nursing Home tributes Athens
Everyone enjoyed our
"Tribute to Athens Greece"
last month at the Manor.
Rev. Jim Sloan from
Carunna showed us his
slides of "glorious Greece".
Greek pastries and a wine
and cheese party topped off
our afterhoon of armchair
travel.
Easter church services
were provided by Rev. Dino
Salvador. Rev. Irene
Richardson. Elly Van
Bergen. Rev. Nick
Vandermey and Rev. Rob
Hiscox.
During April we were
pleased to host the annual
meeting and luncheon of the
Seaforth Women's Institute.
Residents enjoyed piano
music by Carol Carter and
Bill Gibson as well as violin
music by Paul the Fiddler.
Entertaining for our
Birthday Party was the
"Swinging Seniors" from
Zurich. Spiritual Care is a
visiting program that will be
a wonderful addition to our
Pastoral Care Program. A
number of church visitors
attended a spiritual care
meeting.
Looking ahead to May
everyone is invited to attend
our "Rhubarb Pie Social" on
May 23 from 2-4 p.m. in
both our nursing home and
retirement home. Admission
includes 2 pieces of pie.
A bake sale will also be
held. If anyone would like to
donate baking please bring it
to the Activity Room before
noon on May 23rd. We are
also looking for anyone with
rhubarb to spare. Please call
Cheryl Phillips at 527-0030
if you can help us out.

Gladys and Her Merry
Makers provided beautiful
music at the birthday party,

Murray Howe, and Dorothy
Carrel. Volunteers were in to
help make this a special
afternoon for the residents.
Rev. Di Novo of
Bruccfield and Kippen
United Churches led
worship service Tuesday,
April 21 and Rev. Peebles
provided our service, April
28th. Bclva Fuss was
volunteer pianist with Mag
Cole assisting residents.

Dr. Englert presented a

from the community as well

member desiring to attend.

Passenger injured
in minor accident
The passenger of a car
received minor injuries after
an accident April 28 in
Vanastra.
Christopher Shearer, 35 of
Clinton was southbound on
County Road 4 at the
intersection of 7th avenue
when he was struck from
behind by a pick up truck
driven by Jeffrey Dejong,
39, of Seaforth.
The car was pushed off
the roadway he the truck.
A passenger received non-
lifethreatening injuries and
was taken to Clinton Public
Hospital for treatment.
Theft of farm equipment
A Monarch hydraulic
cylinder with hose was taken
off a John Deere cultivator
in McKillop Township and
was reported missing on
April 27 at 12:30 p.m.
The piece of machinery
had hecn left in a field and
was taken sometime during
the past month.
Attempted theft
Two youths have been
recommended to get some
counselling after being
caught taking cigarettes from
a Seaforth gas station.
The two were caught April
25 at 7:30 p.m. and police
were called.
The two were too young
toe charged under the Young
Offenders Act hut police
spoke to their parents.
Expositor entered
The office of The Huron
Expositor wa. entered
sometime during the night of
April 30.
Nothing was reported
stolen.
Would -he -thieves forced
open a south door to enter
the building.
