District annual May 21 at Zurich
Manor hosts Seaforth WI annual meeting
Scatorth Women's Institute
held its annual meeting on
April 14th at the Seaforth
Manor.
Cheryl Phillips welcomed
us. We sat down to a beauti-
ful luncheon. It was all
trimmed with blue and gold.
Viola Lawson thanked the
Seaforth Manor. Marion
Gordon welcomed everyone
and the Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect were
repeated. Roll call was
answered by 13 members by
paying their dues.
Rosette Power spoke about
the program. DIP co-ordina-
tor hooks cost $10.16. A
motion was made to sponsor
10 kids. Minutes of the last
meeting were read by Betty
Hulley. The Treasurer's
Report was given by Helen
MacKenzie.
A motion was made by
Helen MacKenzie to pay
$10.00 for dues in 1998.
Olive Papple gave a report of
the district meeting.
The District annual will be
held May 21st at Zurich
Women's
Institute
Town Hall at 6:30 p.m.
The District picnic is July
7th at Crediton. The London
area convention is Oct. 22 in
Kirkton. Olive Papple gave a
reading called "Aging".
Betty Hulley ritad the min-
utes of the 1997 annual meet-
ing. Reports were given by
the program co-ordinator,
Viola Lawson. The public
relations report was given by
Marjorie Rock.
The financial advisor's
report was given by Marjorie
Rock.
Helen MacKenzie gave the
slate of officers for 1998.

The girls at the Seaforth
Manor served us a beautiful
lunch of squares, coffee and
tea.
We had three draws on the
flower centrepieces on the
tables. Winners were: Olive
Papple, Jessie MacGregor
and Marjorie Rock.
The next meeting is May 12
at 1:30 p.m. at Kay
O'Rourke's home. Guest
speaker will be Nancy Hak,
on heart transplant.

met at the home of Ruby
Triebner on Tues. April 21
with 10 members paying and
joining again. Three visitors
were welcomed also by the
President Grace Drummond.
The Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect were repeated and
everyone answered with the
most neighbourly thing that
had happened to them.
The minutes were read and
approved. The following

coalition
gets funds
for pilot
water study
The Huron Environmental
Farm Coalition (a group of
11 agricultural producers'
associations in partnership
with conservation authorities,
county council and the health
unit) has received $15,000 in
funding for a pilot project
"to study historic and current
bacteria and nutrient levels in
arca water."
The grant comes from the
national soil and water con-
servation program.
Prof. Douglas Joy, of the
University of Guelph will be
in chargc of the project, hir-
ing and supervising a gradu-
ate student to collect the data.
"Water quality is a major
concern of residents and visi-
tors to Huron County," a
press release from the coali-
tion states. "Concerns focus
on potability of water in
wells and surface water,
especially thc suitability of
surface waters in the county
and Lake Huron for swim-
ming.
"Our goal is to educate live-
stock and cash crop produc-
ers. thc public, municipal and
other governments with the
historical and current state of
surface water quality."

July 7 is the W.I. picnic at
Crediton. Our program plan-
ning meeting will he held
May 7 at Grace Drummonds.
