Accommodations for 1999
Plowing Match filling up fast
Printing will take place in early May
so that distribution can begin this June.
"It is important to get the accommoda-
tions brochure out to companies as they
book their site in the tented city," says
Mathers. Distribution will also take place
at fairs during the next year, at the 1998
plowing match near Kingston and at
events like the Blyth Steam Threshers
reunion. About 5000 brochures will he
distributed over the next year and a half.
"This should really put Huron County
accommodations on the map." says the
committee chair. Anyone who wishes to
be included in the brochure should con-
tact Arnold Mathers, Exeter, during the
next week or so. The cost to register is
$5 per site with the cheque made out to
International Plowing Match, Huron
1999.
The IPM will be held in Huron from
September 21-25, 1999 at the Becker
farm near Dashwood.
HURON - Although the Huron
County International Plowing Match is a
year and a half away. the
Accommodations Committee has been
hard at work for some months. This
committee of 12 volunteers has the task
of preparing and distributing a brochure
of all possible accommodations within
easy access of the Dashwood site.
- With the assistance of the Huron
Tourism Association. a flyer has been
distributed inviting all hotels, motels.
bed and breakfasts, campsites and pri
vate homes to register with the Plowing
Match Accommodations Committee.
Presently over 50 locations have regis-
tered to be included in the brochure.
Arnold Mathers, the committee chair,
says that each registrant will be contact-
ed by telephone by a committee member
to discuss the final wording of the
brochure.

DO FARMERS EVER
RETIRE ?
As we get older, physi-
cal and mental skills start
to decline. Our reflexes
and response times start to
slow down: strength,
endurance and balance are
reduced. Alertness and
hearing may also be
diminished. The age 'at
which these declines hap-
pen varies with each indi-
vidual.
Senior farmers do con-
tribute to meaningful
work. It keeps them
active, involved and builds
self-worth. However. they
should only perform tasks
that they can safely
accomplish. They should
allow themselves extra
time to do the job with fre-
quent opportunities for
rest.
